I have a launch day switch on 4.1. I’ve been out of the scene but it seems the system has been blown open. Is there a resource like the 3DS Homebrew guide that will show you how to prep a payload, pick a CFW and show how to run back ups and home brew?

I also want to go online for my currently owned games and smash. Is playing with a modded Switch safe? I might buy a 2nd Switch. One to play my original carts online and one for CFW, can I buy any switch off the store shelves today and load CFW?

As for playing online with a modded Switch, it is definitely not safe.

Certain Switch units are patched at the hardware level and are identified by their serial number. Check this thread for more info: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-informations-by-serial-number.481215/

Thanks again.

Another question sorry it’s hard to find this information in the forums.

How future proof is CFW. Do we have everything we need to update to later CFW based on newer OFW? What about new games that require higher FW do we have the tools to patch them and keep playing newer titles?

The PS4 scene is stuck playing games at 5.50 or earlier with no signs of that changing, is the Switch scene in the same situation or do we have a clear method to keep playing games requiring newer firmware’s?

Unlike the PS4, the exploit we are using on the Switch is unpatchable via firmware updates similar to the 3DS exploit. However, Nintendo can patch out the CFW/homebrew portion via firmware updates meaning the CFW will need to be regularly updated such as before the inevitable firmware 6.0. All CFW is on the Switch are a bunch of files on the SD card that you can either update manually when the time comes or use the update feature for CFWs that support it.

I see so no matter what Nintendo does, you’ll always be able to load a payload and therefore you’ll always be able to load a patched version of OFW for running back ups that require higher firmware.

Dude sorry if I'm being rude but did you research GBATemp before asking these questions?
Most of the information is mostly stickied on the forum.
I've seen quite a few who posted something like "New switch, how do i hack?" and "Back from hacking hiatus, how do i hack?" asking questions that have been already answered in prior popular threads.
