Hey guys,
First time poster there.

I am getting confused on something and needed some help.
So I finally successgfully hacked my PS3 using REBUG_4.82.1_LITE. I have Multiman installed, Cobra enabled, and rebug toolbox installed.

But between the extrememly old posts for older hacks, confusing youtube videos, and posts that already assume you have done this before, I am getting a bit confused.

So not every website has ps3 games in the same format. As such I have found that I have two types of games. I have the rap/pkg files for some games, and the blueray folder dump of games.

I understand that if the game has no file less than 4gb, i can just stick the game folder in a folder called GAMES on a drive or usb stick and it will pop up in multiman.

But my issue im getting all turned around on is the folder games that cant be on a fat32 drive and the pkg games.
Can someone assist on how to get these to work? I tried watching and reading instructions but it all deals with copying games to the internal storage....? But id like to keep the games on the external.

Anyone have a noob friendly link that shows how to play larger than 4gig folder based AND pkg format games? Or can walk me through?

Thanks in advance.

Folder rips is what you want for Multiman (no clue what the ISO compatibility is)
Pkg files are PSN games.

I personally say upgrade the internal drive to a 1 TB drive and FTP into the console.
Multiman supports NTFS but you'd have to set it up somehow.
Besides, internal is much more reliable.

I took your advice and its def much easier to just copy the games to internal.

Next question, the pkg/rap files. Figured out how to install. But when I try to play the game, it says i need to be signed into PSN? I dont care about playing online or want to be signed into the PSN. Is there a patch or procedure to install the PKG/Rap and have it just work offline?

I know that there's fixes for PSN games, some warez sites offer them if I'm not mistaken.

It used to be that the RAP files had to be activated with ReActPSN but that has been dead since a few years.

I say FTP them to the console.
You can use Filezilla.

PS2/PS1 should be in ISO format, PS3, I personally always got folder rips.

PS2/PS1 goes into the PS2/PS1 folder on the HDD (dev_hdd0) and PS3 games go into the GAMES folder.

In 2010 maybe. In 2018 however, cobra + ISO is much more convenient & reliable.

I have horrible memories of transfering thirty thousand files per game, the connection overhead per file was significantly more than just ftp'ing an iso.

I prefer ps3netsrv because you can leave the iso on a nas or pc & then it doesn't matter what file system they are stored on.

I honestly never bothered with ISO images.
Had the PS3 hacked since 2011 I think so yeh, the knowledge is a bit outdated but still applicable and easy to understand.

I only switched in the last couple of years. I found that ftp'ing the psjb files off the ps3 was dreadful, it had an effective transfer of 100's of bytes per second because of the large number of files. I then went through the process of building IRD verified ISO's. The days of hacked eboots and param.sfos came back to bite me, eventually I tracked down the original untouched eboot and param.sfo (they were often hacked to work round issues with running the games in folder format).

Now I have multiple PS3 and can easily run a game on any of them, without having to wait for it to be transferred. Plus you can stream dvd or bluray iso, which is quite useful sometimes.

I also don't have to worry about black screen issues on any games anymore. I would certainly recommend people getting hold of ird verified iso rather than ancient patched scene releases in psjb folder format.

I don't think so, I used rap files/ReactPSN just a few months ago and had no problems. Unless there's some new method I'm not aware of.

PSJB format? Hahaha no, just plain folder rips.
No hackery needed on the eboot.

I've seen several sites that offer fixes along with PKG releases.
Appearantly no ReActPSN needed.

could not get bin and cue to run but i ahve had others.
now to try retroarch, any tips on that where the roms need to be etc?

Never used retroarch.
If it has a filebrowser, just make a folder called ROMs and copy everything in there.

"JB format" is indeed a synonym for "file-level backups of BD games you use in the GAMES or GAMEZ folder", probably because it was the only option back then
(whether you do minimum version hacks on them is another story)

There are basically 4 options to get a commercial digital game on the console:
1- get the license (combination of per-user activation and per-title-and-user rif) from the PS Store ;)
2- obtain a rap (not directly usable, but user-independent alternative to rif), combine it with an activation file (using psnpatch, rifconv, etc), and install it
2,5 - obtain a rap and install it with ReactPSN (which fake-activates user "aa" if he isn't already, then continues as above)
3- install a license through a package (can't tell you much on this, never seen one and never tried)
4- install a drm-free package instead (like the ones you can build with 2) and PSN Liberator; most demos and homebrews are already of this kind)

Never used retroarch.

Only used it once to see how bad it is :D
At least if integration with Webman is desired, they should go in hdd0/ROMS/(system)/ indeed

Back in the REAL 3.55 days, PS1 and 2 games had to be converted into "PS1/2 Classics" and installed as such. Looks like things have progressed nicely, seeing how we can use ISOs for PS1 and PS2... But do the PS2 games play on PS3 hardware that isn't backwards-compatible?
