In theory, you would be able to. I did that with my PS4 Pro when 5.05 was still the latest firmware. Then I waited for an exploit, which eventually came to be.

The same can be applied to 5.55, but you need to be confident that an exploit will surface. In my case a private kexploit for 5.05 has already been known of. Don't know about the current status of a 5.55 kexploit, though.

Btw, there's a hacky technique to get Remote Play working on non-activated consoles. It uses IDU mode, which is not recommended to be activated at all...

I've heard of that technique. Not only it messes with IDU, it is also restricted to direct connect, which is far from being ideal.

I do not have a PS4, I just care that much about Remote Play, so I'm just wondering what is my best shot at getting what I want from both worlds.

Interesting. Now that there's a chance of a release (be it in months) I think about updating my second PS4 in order to activate it. Do you guys think that an activated and exploited console would fetch a higher price than a non-activated exploited one?

I think: Once formatted (to sell on) the console is no longer activated (act.dat etc removed).

If not you can always install a pre-activated profile like extrememodding’s v2 method.

Because Remote Play is unstable on Direct Connect, which is the method used on unactivated PS4's. Wired is the best way to do it. And I do not want to mess with IDU lol

I rather thought of a throwaway account with nothing on it. This way I thought you wouldn't necessarily have to get rid of it in order to sell the console.

@Axido you simply get a 5.05 console that’s been activated, but nothing put on it, and dump the profile to usb.

Take a 5.05 console that has never been online, and restore that dumped profile from the other one via usb.

Now you have two activated consoles.

Works for 5.05 thanks to extrememodding uploading his blank profile. Only down side is you can’t restore a profile without formatting, which is easy if you don’t have any content.

I played mostly with direct connect because of stability and low latency.

"Messing with IDU" is such an exaggeration. I've done it within 5 minutes of reading. The only risk is automatic update while in IDU, which can be prevented by caching exploit and disabling internet connection.
