The VOs are fantastic
that's one of the thing which bothered me, because I'm not fluent and had to read to understand what was being said. but, the text is not always well placed on screen, easy to read, or staying long enough to read it.
I hope they will translate it entirely, but I understand how much work it can be to fully dub a game this big with open interactions.

I appreciate that they are doing more than chips in head and body lines. The guys with eyes that don't look human at all is cool, but I hope as you progress, that there are some people that don't look human at all or at least look very noticeably different. It sometimes bugs me when you can replace almost every body part, if not all, with artificial parts and people still look pretty human without any reason why. People are trying to change their looks now, let alone years later. Even if there was a law or laws to prevent people from looking too nonhuman or some kind of limit of replacement parts, there's the black market.

Also, not as related, but the weapon arms upgrade looks pretty cool too. I wonder if they will eventually replace small firearms.

I'm not a fan of FPS, I'd prefer third person view if there's an option.
But I think they made it FPS only, except on cut scenes.

I believe it was an artistic choice, so that they could have more confined environments/immersion to better sell the world they were trying to create with this game. I think they said something along those lines earlier. If you watch the demo, you'll see that many parts of it take place in confined spaces that don't seem well suited for third person. Since camera angle plays a very big role in level design (third person requires more space and less vertical obstructions to accommodate the camera, for example), that's likely why they stuck with one and didn't provide the option to switch back and forth, like in a Bethesda game. If you've played many Bethesda games, you know that the third person camera is usually very awkward, especially when you're in confined spaces like dungeons in Elder Scrolls or small corridors with a ton of debris like in Fallout. Bethesda gives you the option, to your own detriment. CDPR is anything but callous, so I'd personally give them the benefit of the doubt in making first person the right decision for this game.

Nice. I wanted to play a game version of the more recent Judge Dredd effort and that looks like it will stand in nicely.

Though I have been told "this time we really cracked" open world before and while that did not set off too many flags (compare it to something like Deus Ex) I am still "believe it when I see it".

why make it an FPS?

I would argue that anything other than FPS would be mildly nonsensical. With an RPG you have a decision tree, and one of the immediate decisions to think about is how involved the player is with the gameplay itself. This mean determining how much control over the character the player has. A game that is a stark contrast in difference to this would be the Shadowrun games, which are isometric turn based tactics games. You also have a traditional turn based RPGs. Finally, but not exclusively, you have the WRPG, games like Skyrim and Watchdogs. This is one of the immediate first decisions when making a game.

Now, take who the actual developer is: CDPR. What have they been known to make? The Witcher. The decision from the outset was that this was going to be a very hands on game, a WRPG. Now, given the setting, guns were going to be involved in a very major way. Disregarding whether it was first or third person, the only logical choice would have been to make this game a shooter. This was all to be expected. It would have been a surprise to see them make something other than a game in this style.

A bit more offtopic: does anyone know if Shadowrun was inspired by Cyberpunk, if they were near simultaneous individual creations, or if they were both inspired from a single source? They both originated within a year of each other in 1988-1989 and seem to have more similarities than coincidence would seem to allow.

Narrator dude: "THIS IS AN RPG"

>Why Night City?

>ExLover in town
>Something to prove
>Unfinished Business

I audibly laughed at only three choices. What the actual hell are these? Is nobody born there and simply stuck with living there like most people in cities? Nobody goes there for work? Who the hell travels to another city because an ex is there?

I understand it's cyberPUNK but I really don't want to play as an edgelord. Dishonored is whalepunk and gets along just fine.

That, and it pains me that this is apparently what they think an RPG is. Let's be real, we all know those choices affect a single piece of dialogue. Each, if we're lucky.

Huh? Skip to 28:30, there are obviously meaningful choices to make during dialogue (four plus grabbing the gun). I'm betting it's possible to unlock other options through stats/augments too.

Oh, they just outright don't give two shits about nudity online...well then.
Not to say they shouldn't do it but hopefully they include an option to censor that stuff, like a blur or pixelation.
Personally what bothers me is that this living woman that is bare naked is continuously shown naked with no effort to provide some dignity.

Like i'm ok with naked people, but have reason for it. Don't continuously have a naked person on screen and nobody covers them up. Nobody does that in real life unless it's a massive amount of corpses akin to a plague or european holocost levels of genocide.

Clearly this is a dystopian future where HIPPA doesn't exist because even when the player handed the naked woman over to the paremedics, they should have covered her up. Even during surgery, patients are NEVER put on full display without their consent. Healthcare always respects the dignity of patients.

I hate hollywood. Don't call your shit realistic and do things like this.

Read my comment. I meant the backstory choices. Those also mean a lot to me because if you don't have them, you end up with premade protagonists like Fallout 4 and Fire Emblem Fates or blank slates like Legend of Zelda and Elder Scrolls.

This looks like the follow-up to Deus Ex we've all been waiting for, stunning graphics/universe and really fun looking gameplay. Sorry "Deus Ex Universe"!
Also really enjoying that it has been built to be relatively gender-agnostic: Seems a bit silly to say in this day and age, but more games could do with being truly open-world.

This troubled me too. I wonder if they are open to feedback?

I prefer games with a TP perspective

CDPR isn't even US-based, let alone Hollywood based lol. Though I agree there's no reason to leave her naked for so long, they kind of already had a habit of displaying naked women in The Witcher. 'Tis subject to change, though.

Fair enough, we'll see how many options there are at release. Would be nice to be able to fill in a custom story and then answer some questions in the beginning of the game to kind of build a piecemeal backstory from the other backgrounds, too.

I don't know. While I expect the story to be something of an all roads lead to Rome situation and maybe a "final few choices make most of the impact" type situation as well I am going to go with optimism here and say things will weave back in and out a bit. Deus Ex managed quite a bit of this 18 years ago if you let characters die or piss them off enough.

As for the choices there I don't think I read it as you are free to make absolutely whatever character you choose. It is a bit of fluff, one maybe referenced a few times or providing the onus for a (side) mission or three. While they might be a bit cliche for such a type of story. As for the ex thing some do manage the "just be friends" thing, some move there with them and then make something of it or don't care to face moving away (it said California free state so I don't imagine immigration is so very easy) and some might want some kind of kind of reconciliation.

Personally what bothers me is that this living woman that is bare naked is continuously shown naked with no effort to provide some dignity.

Did that look like a hospital during a quiet moment to you? Emergency medical care being provided by mercenaries (some skills but hardly paramedics or relevant doctors), bodies made getting the person back probably still alive in terms of their temperature. Oh no let me fetch a modesty covering sheet? That really bothered you/was something you wanted to pick up on? That seems bizarre to me. If someone had needlessly undressed them then maybe but "it was like that when they got there" suffices here. I have thankfully been spared the really fun times in paramedic scenarios, A&E/ER and psych wards but from those I know that were there (dinner time/breakfast conversation is so fun for that one) that would not even rate a mention -- "so some naked lady got dropped off last night"... "no blood, no broken bones, no crazy drug trip, no heartwarming stories? Why are you bringing it up?" being how that one would play out.

The main thing that bothered me was despite the claims of lore and everything being thoroughly thought through the many of the apparent limitations in terms of weapons, materials for augments... are old hat and largely solved today (or solved but slightly too expensive to give to yoru cannon fodder infantry grunt types). Sure things are held back but eh. That said I can usually switch off that part of my mind.
