Ive managed to restore my nand backup, but I was wondering... if I keep using homebrew with hekate in offline mode and THEN connect to the internet (after returning to horizon), I'm gonna be at risk because of the system log right?

The only things that can ban you after a clean NAND restore is the fact that you entered RCM to backup the NAND and any error logs sent before backing it up.
It also has a tool called "UMS Tool (by rajkosto)" on TegraRcmGUI that do the same thing.
While that is true, rajkosto does not support TegraRCMGUI since it offers little advantage over TegraRCMSmash and has been known to cause issues that don't appear with the original.

I homebrewed my switch few days now (5.1.0) edition. Is there a possible way after shutdown or restart the switch to relaunch the homebrew automatically without need of a computer or an android and RCM

Hi guys,

Having just recently purchased a used Switch, on firmware 5.1.0, not connected online, yet, considering that it was used, how can I tell if it has been tampered with?
If I log online, is the banishment immediate or does it take a few days to kick in (I bought the console at a retailer, and I have a couple of days to test it out)?

Considering I don't know the ecosystem of the Switch for the time being, I'd like to see for myself what it has to offer online.
For someone that doesn't really care for online play, is the online aspect any good or is it just to download demos and games?

Any multimedia capabilites the device has? I've read somewhere that Nintendo killed mp4 playback, which for me and a 4 year old girl that likes to watch Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and other movies, sucks very much.
Any way to watch movies on the console with OFW? It if doesn't, the heck with it, I'll hack it. Homebrew should have a solution, no?

Yeah, but I was wondering if the system log register everything you use even while offline. For exemple: if I keep using cfw and homebrews, the first time I connect to internet Nintendo will know every software I've used, even non-official ones. Right?

Also, I'm wondering: I restored my NAND. but I'm pretty sure that some errors in my console were reported to them before this process. Since I restored my nand, the error log was cleaned right? Won't that put me in a worse situation than if hadn't restored my nand?

Not at this time. You need something to inject the payload. Dongle, PC, Android.

I suppose you could call Nintendo and explain the situation and ask if it is banned or flagged for a ban. Not sure if you would get an answer or not. Certainly can create a Nintendo Account and see if you have eshop access or not. This is really a sticky situation becuase if the previous owner hacked it could take days/weeks for a ban and then you are past any return window.

I can’t tell you if online is “any good”. Certain titles like Splatoon2 are primarily online games and I consider it good others do not.

No clue on the media player situation.

Thanks. I guess I'll backup my NAND and tinker offline from there. When the time comes, I'll just reinstall the system. I'm already on the lookout for some game deals here and there...

From what I can see, there's not many reasons for going online if you are not an online player. I mean, even multimedia capabilities have been cut short, what confuses me even more.

Yes, it should be able to log stuff while online which explains how people were banned for using LayeredFS completely offline. One of the prevailing theories is the custom error codes it generated but we don't have sufficient evidence to prove that definitively. There are plenty of other reasons why using LayeredFS to play backups could have led to a ban.

Also, while you are technically clearing the error logs, the NAND restore is really reverting the console to a pre-hacking state. Even the changes in firmware 5.X can't detect the error logs being cleared this way. The only reason this would be an issue is if you went online with any of those error logs before restoring the NAND. This is under the assumption you were using the console online normally with whatever error reports you had before hacking the console.

Well, that's relieving. I initially though that nintendo somehow registered logs for each Nintendo Account / MAC adress, thus connecting with the same console again but with zero errors on log (after restoring the nand) would certain get their attention.

Anyway, thanks for always taking your time to answer questions here. I really appreciate =)

So why is Nintendo banning the entire console for pirating some games? I mean on the money side of it that would mean pirates would be incapable of even buying legit online only games like arms. I would think some profit would be better than none?

What I am trying to say is this isn't actually going to stop pirates from pirating this is merely going to lock pirates down to pirating only which generates no revenue at all for nintendo.

Ah, I was waiting for someone for someone dumb enough to ask that question. Nintendo makes no profit off of people pirating games, or even used games for that matter. True Nintendo cannot really stop piracy by banning people but it does several things indirectly.
  • For starters, it serves as a punishment towards those who think they can pirate and get away with it. This stands above all arguments that I will present. If you never punish people who pirate, then they will continue to do so. In fact, some people who are so paranoid about getting punished for piracy notice Nintendo eases up for even a second, they would begin pirating in the blink of an eye
  • Piracy doesn't hurt sales, its more of a loss of a theoretical sale. Nintendo has no way of knowing if someone already bought the game they're playing as a backup (.XCI games for the most part). So banning pirates really doesn't affect their sales figures as has been shown time and time again. Not to mention most pirates care about the consequences of a ban to begin with.
  • Bans are not the end of the world; its only one console lost to Davy Jones' Locker. In fact, Nintendo might even be betting on people to buy another console so they can enjoy online services while still hacking away on a banned unit. That's usually what people do in fact when they're a part of the scene. If you don't ban consoles that are hacked, these people lose incentive on buying a second console which can reduce sales
  • Piracy in of itself shouldn't be allowed first and foremost so saying Nintendo shouldn't ban people who pirate is justifying people who do. And regardless of the reasons you can come up with, piracy is not acceptable. People just accept it as an inevitability with the way the world works. But that doesn't automatically mean we should bend our will to pirates just because they won't stop for reasons I have already stated.

I sort of get what you're saying but take smash bros for instance if you ban the pirates version of that game then they would still be able to go out and buy a legit copy of the game and still pay you the monthly Internet subscription fees.

I suppose I should have worded it as why are they jumping to a super ban? Or I suppose why not make lock down the pirated games but allow them the opportunity to purchase the pirated game at msrp to get the saves and access to the game back.

In that case, I would mark it as poor server management on their part. See Nintendo were the ones dumb enough to store eShop content and updates on the same server. This same server originally didn't care if the console was banned or not. This server's name is atum. The traditional ban is related to restricted access to dauth of which online play and eShop access (not eShop content) is reserved for. So when people abused CDN downloading, they decided the best course of action was to ban them from both servers. Now you can say why should those who don't abuse CDN downloading deserve the same treatment? Well because a banned console cert was initially abused to download from the CDN because of their own oversight.

For the time being, I feel that this is the best course of action because Nintendo cannot afford more people to abuse CDN downloading with console certificates whether regularly banned or not. There are plenty of other ways they can go about doing this, don't get me wrong. But this was the quickest and most effective way of doing so. There's going to some maintenance tonight that may or may not change the status of the whole banning situation. And the fact that such maintenance has taken so long speaks to how urgent it was for them to implement a quick fix for their oversight; via CDN bans.

How can i send the payload like hekate or reinx with linux? no automatic process needed, i just need a simple replacement for the windonws tegrarcmgui im using now that runs under a standard linux distro (gui or consolebased)

Hi guys. I have a Switch that I purchased on US launch day, but it is on latest FW. I am wanting to hack my Switch, primarily for save downloading. I read some guides on here, but have no clue where to start. Is it easily doable? I don't have access to a 3D Printer or anything like that. Help GREATLY appreciated :)

Hey there, I haven’t been around here much but I seem to recall bantering around with you back in the old Gatewait days. Good times. Need to spend this afternoon updating the 3DSs as I haven’t touched them in over a year.

Yes it is easily doable. What guides have you read and what are you confused about? There are several ways to skin this cat.

SX Pro includes a dongle and jig but you have to pay, ReiNX and RajNX are free but you must have a method such as a phone, dongle or PC to inject payload on each boot, not necessary from sleep.

Start with doing a full Nand backup. Always. You will need to use some method to enter RCM, order a jig from amazon or eBay unless you are very handy with delicate electronics and DIY projects.
Backup/Restore your Nand + Get your biskeys+tseckeys+keys.txt Guide

From there you just need to select which route you want to take. RajNX claims to be the easiest free route and I have used it. ReiNX is probably not much more difficult though. The end result is very similar.

Which method do you recommend? I am ok with following guides, biggest concern is the Jig making. I have never made a Jig before, not handy with delicate electronics and DIY...
