you can avoid that just ctr transfer to something lower as i instructed then use gm9 to ctr transfer to the desired fw like in the ctrtransfer instructions. . . you will need to use google to find the correct ctr transfer images
fyi you always could have been banned and nintendos protection is only gonna get you banned if you actively use freeshop to download games . . . just stop using freeshop . . . honestly whoever decided stealing games directly from a official distribution/shop site was a safe/good move was not very bright

no, nand images are console specific, the next best thing to a nand restore, is a ctr transfer

the system update is a step because nintendo official updates will actually attempt to clean up the nand which in its self helps when the problem is frankinfirm . . . but if you push to that step and discover your ak2i works then an update would be unneeded (fun fact just because you have frankinfirm does not mean your 3ds is lame and once upon a time a frankinfirm was recommended)

If a nds-bootstrap firmware (TWLoader or DSImenu ++) has been installed incorrectly, this can also be deleted with FBI and then repeat the following tutorial again: https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting#dsi--ds-functionality-is-broken-after-completing-the-guide
Of course, there are certainly other ways to fix the bug, but due to the ROP Installer specification, the full formatting seems to be the easiest way, according to the developer.

perhaps he just did not want to link to the required files . . . (they are Nintendo's property after all hence why you need to torrent them)

Based on your statement, the error was probably caused by the "ROP Chain installer".
Due to the instability is now the TWL Firm (NDS) bricks.

ROP Chain installer, by Fierce Waffle. It's a little unstable and can brick the DS Mode of the console. It requires a full 3DS format to fix it. You will lose all your data installed on 3DS if you format it.If you have used this installer, according to the developer, a formatting of the system is necessary,
if a restoration using the Troubleshooting Guide is not possible.
Unfortunately, I can not think of anything else without being able to test it myself
