Is SX OS the only firmware that currently supports playing from XCI files?

I am uncertain about installing NSP files as I want to keep the risk of a ban to a minimum. Are there any reports of bans from playing XCI files through SX OS in aeroplane mode?

Trying to figure out if SX OS is worth it or if it is worth pursuing a different route.

First, bans are reported here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendo-switch-banning-hub-warning.508710/

Secondly, there have been various .XCI related bans that range from people playing their own backups online to updating them in OFW so use them at your own risk.

Thirdly, SX OS is currently the only CFW capable of launching .XCI files while ReiNX has plans to support it in the future.

IMO the only reason to prefer xci over nsp is if you want to take your own card dumps and use them online with their original certs (i do this with mario kart on sxos).
There is just no "proof" that installing and playing nsp´s strictly offline (!!) is more risky than xci via sx loader.
I for myself have installed tons of nsp games (my 400gb sd is full) via devmenu, i also update them via Wifi (!) while in sxos and i also go to estore while in sxos and connected. What i didn´t do ever is starting a game while connected, always turned on airplane mode before gaming. And yet i´m still not banned so there´s no way to say xci is safer or not, we just don´t know yet.

it's worth every penny. You get a hassle free OS to play xci and nsp files and a high quality jig that won't ruin your pins in the long term.
I was so satisfied with the product I purchased another for my second switch that already had devmenu/hekate running.

Yeah i can second that, i was suspicious at first that they´ll just throw out their xci loader take the money and be gone but they do an pretty awesome job by supporting their os, we got the card2 update very fast also our own nsp installer which works with updates and dlc before tinfoil, we got even more patches so we can use self created nsps and who knows what they´ll ad in the future.
So yeah, worth every penny :)

If you are patient, I'd probably just wait a couple of weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if SXOS no longer offers anything unique over other CFW by the end of the month. The dongle itself seems really nice though, so it might be worth buying the SX Pro just for that. Cheaper dongles from other sources are also starting to pop up so those might be worth your consideration as well.

To be fair, my faith in TX was never in doubt given their proven track history.
Having said that though, they have surprised me with their speed in improving their cfw.
Best few quid i’ve spent in ages.
Haters gonna hate for various understandable reasons, but if you want the best solution (still even months after release), TX have no competition.

@snoofly I too know them from the xbox360 days but what i heard the TX that does the sxos for switch is a completely differente chinese team as back then

@ChaosEternal Cheaper then sx pro dongle? The only alternative i know atm is a 15$ dongle from aliexpress while sx pro dongle is 10$. I don´t think you can get way cheaper then this price if you take the needed components.

$10? Isn't the MSRP for it $35 with most sites charging at least $5 more? Are you subtracting the cost of SXOS from it? If he decides to buy SXOS anyway, then that's a valid point, but if he intends to use any other CFW then he's paying an extra $20+ for something he isn't using. The Pro is still probably the safer bet among the dongles, but I figured I'd suggest all the possibilities so he could make an informed decision.

$45 but that dongle has SX os inside of it, maybe if TX start selling dongle and jigs alone will cost $15 witwithout OS.
