Hmm, interesting. Say I play some games I shouldn't own then, I created my backup with Hekate ASAP before doing anything else to my console. I then restore my backup nand. Guessing chances of me getting banned are a lot less likely then?
Don't see myself ever using their online services anyways especially since things seem to be close to coming together in terms of installing NSP's and well, of course, XCI backups being used.
My advice to anyone not wanting to be banned from CDN access would be to get the games from a shop with a goodwill return policy and dump those with certs and then return them. No guarantee but safer than dumps found online.

Also, I just realised you guys might be talking about the console itself, yeah I'm an idiot. Hahaha.

I can understand that it’s easier for them but it still seems a bit too much for me. Patch the freeshop and leave the firmware updates available for banned consoles would be only logical for me. Imagine some new malware, bug, wtv, manages to screw your switch on 5.1 and 6.0 fixed that issue. Banned people would loose access (directly) to urgent bug fixes

There is a phrase when dealing with security called movie plot threats, which is to say things that might be technically possibly but only likely to be seen in a cheesy film. Between and "not my problem" that covers those.

Though I am sure if some actively spreading malware happened wherein it bothered legit devices they would just drop their revoked list for a while, alternatively they might just issue a USB/SD update method.

Not saying it's a lie but the video proof only shows a normal error. It doesn't say outright that he is banned or restricted nor an error code is shown. I download NSPs on my PC and it's still working as of now, never tried on the Switch itself.

Nintendo is starting to ban certs from CDN access. This will make your console useless for downloading games, updates for your games, dlc, and sysupdates. Please be cautious when using anything that access the CDN i.e. FreeShopNX, CDNSP, etc. You've been warned.

Edit: Here is some proof even Sysupdates are blocked: https://streamable.com/k623d
Welp, I'm getting the same error and I haven't even used my cert to download from CDN with those tools. My console was already banned, but now I guess I'm CDN banned...

Congrats to the idiots abusing freeshop and cdn. I always knew nintendo is going to eventually do this and that's one of the reason why I wont touch devmenu or install any nsp on my switch right now.

Even if this is true (I assume it is), then, well, what the hell did you expect considering how much Ninty has upgraded their defenses. I did a hekate NAND backup before even booting into SX OS for the first time and hasn't went online since.

So, it's confirmed that hundreds of certs have been banned? Damn. That's rough... but fair.

I wonder how many people had used SX OS before getting banned. I'm willing to bet it's close to 100% of them... GG, TX!

its good that they punish this behavior, however, I'm not happy about the chance of a hacked console becoming virtually useless because of it.

How does a backup help if they're banning your cert? Surely your backup has the same cert.
If you never went online with pirated games on your console before the backup. Then after restoring it Ninty will see it as just your console being offline for a while, which is not a bannable offence AFAIK

You do realise this ban wave happened because peoples are abusing Freeshop/CDNSP after free sigpatch came out to the public right?
