Stardew Valley multiplayer update gets official release date for PC

If you're one of the hundreds of thousands of people who bought the Harvest Moon inspired hit indie game, Stardew Valley, you might be excited to hear the long-awaited online co-op update is almost here. It'll be hitting PC first, then the Nintendo Switch and other consoles at a later date. The patch will go out to players through Steam, GOG, and WeGame on August 1, and will let you play with up to 3 others, and create a large farm with their own homes and animals and crops.

Can someone tell me how is this different from Animal Crossing or Farmville?
It's more Harvest Moon than AC. You build your whole farm up and try to collect enough money to have the best stuff in town. As opposed to Animal Crossing, there's not as much focus on socializing. That aspect is there in Stardew, but it's not really major.

Been playing with the multiplayer beta since it first released. It's so much better now than it was when it first started. Connectivity issues, desyncs, and disconnects are almost nonexistent. It's a blast with a full farm of 4 and there are already mods that uncap the player limit so you can have as many farmhands as you want. The update even comes with new content like building pam a house and the ability to marry other farmhands.

I tough steam already had multiplayer released for it?

It does, but it's still considered to be a public beta. Some people prefer to wait for the finished product, even if it's actually pretty stable (it actually has been pretty stable for nearly all of July, I played a fair amount and never really had any game-breaking crashes or bugs, even with mods that are properly designed for 1.3).
