I have an old 3ds xl that had a gateway with the alh9 stuff installed on it. I want to uninstall all that and just use luma 3ds. I went into the gateway menu and downgraded my firmware, but now anytime I boot my 3ds with the SD card installed, it just gives me a black screen. If I remove my sd card, I boot into (i guess) Sysnand. I tried copying stuff onto my card to install luma3ds, but I still get a black screen when I insert my sd card. Can anyone help me troubleshoot what is wrong?
Try using a different SD card to do the B9S install? You can copy the Nintendo 3DS folder onto the new card later

As you may know, certain games use download play for wireless local play, mostly a bunch of old-ish Mario titles, like New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart 7 and a few Mario Party titles. And as you may also know download play is region locked, and there's my problem, both my sister and I have N3DSs running Luma, but mine is American and hers is European, so we can't play any of these games together. Would the Luma locale emulator work to circumvent the region lock? If so, how would I go about setting it up? And if not, is there any other way to get around the download play region lock?
Make sure that the games themselves are the same region, and your should be able to play with each other.

Taking a guess, I'd say that if you have an EmuNAND, it's corrupted. If you don't have an EmuNAND, then go to The Guide. Perhaps the troubleshooting section has something that can help (SysNAND can't boot).

I finally got Luma3ds installed and working after I was having problems earlier, but now I've run into another issue.
I want to convert a few of my save files from the games I had on my gateway, so I can use them with the CIA rom. Problem is, the only guide I can find involves me having to load the rom on my gateway card. I have fully uninstalled the gateway software from my system and updated my sysnand. Is it at all possible to launch the gateway menu now and load a rom?
I just have 2 games that I really need to be able to keep my save files for, because I have hundreds of hours of gameplay on them.

If you'd asked her for advice before doing anything we would have told you to export you games before getting rid of Gateway :-p Oh well. You will need to re-enable Gateway.
  1. If you got rid of your emuNAND, make another one by looking at the SD card format section in https://3ds.guide/godmode9-usage
  2. Downgrade it to 9.2 by doing a Web archive search of the guide to find the 9.2 CTR transfer file, and follow https://3ds.guide/ctrtransfer on your emuNAND.
  3. Follow https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/ to get Gateway working.
  4. Then follow the guide you mentioned, you just need to export your saves, not import them
  5. Follow https://3ds.guide/move-emunand to get rid of the emuNAND again (unless you might want to use Gateway again, in which case leave it)
  6. Update your sysNAND
  7. Delete all the Gateway files on your SD card (unless you might want to use it again)
  8. Install the games you want to play - either with freeShop (see the OP of the Noob Paradise thread for guidance on setting it up) or by converting your 3DS format games (see the GodMode9 usage page) and installing them with FBI
  9. Follow the rest of the guide you linked, to import the saves to the installed games

I'm having problem with my old 3ds xl, it is a Japanese version with arm9loader and I would like to update to boot9strap to play online, on the system settings shows that is on 11.5.0-38U. If I'm not mistaken is a American version maybe a emuNand, but the godmod9 launch instead safeb9installer I already tried the update guide and hasn't worked.

I'm glad that its at least possible, though inconventient. Thanks!

No. Sorry for misunderstanding. I do now the cfw and now im in the update part. Can I update from 11.4 to 11.7
Yes, make sure to read the guide carefully - this is covered:
  1. Update your device by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
    • Updates while using B9S + Luma (what you have) are safe
    • If this gives you an error, set your DNS settings to “auto”
    • If this still gives you an error, follow CTRTransfer, then try updating again

Thanks for the reply, sadly, we already tried installing the both USA and EUR versions from Freeshop on both consoles and it didn't work. I'll double check and try again as soon as I get home but I'm not too hopeful about it. In the meantime, Any other suggestions?

What happens when you try to play with the console where the game version doesn't match the console? If you get a loop asking you to agree to the terms and conditions, there's a cia with EULA in the title that you'll need to install.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear, the games work even when the region doesn't match, but the local co-op doesn't even then.
So say we install the USA version on both consoles, the game works fine but we can't connect and play together.

What actually happens? Does it loop on the terms and conditions when you try to play a local match?
