I have owned the switch since a couple months after its release, but I have only used it for like 5 hours maximum. Now I am interested in using it more with the new cfws and stuff.
I am thinking of buying SX OS to play back up games and I only want to play them offline but should I still be worried about being banned even if I do everything purely offline?
I have been browsing this website for the past few days for any ban info and for the most part people are saying you will get banned if you go online but you should be okay if you stay offline. Is this more or less true? or is there a lot more other cases that we do not know.
I am on 4.01 firmware and I have actually already tried SX OS but then didn't know I have to buy a license to use it for what I wanted. Seems like even buying a license code is a big pain right now with no response after purchase from the sellers.. (If anyone knows where I can buy one that I can receive it very quickly please let me know)
I did turn on airplane mode, I have not went online on the switch as far as from what I know, I did try installing autorcm, and did boot into SX OS. Now what I did after is, I removed autorcm, and removed my SD card and booted into normal firmware and have played a demo game I already have installed while still being in airplane mode.

Thank you for any information.

The funny thing is nobody knows for sure what is logged and where it is logged and what kind of information nintendo receives when you go online.
In your case as soon you go online with your switch you most probably get flagged and the next time you go online with your console it will be banned.

Stay offline until there are tools to clean all logfiles (if it is even possible, there are guesses that it won't) and you will not get banned.

no i've made the error to launch minecraft with internet using sx os and it said "error code ...... you can't access online service with that console" but I can go to the eshop guess it's just the backup that is banned from online

Depends on the backups you plan to use. I have been using self dumped backups only (thus of games I actually own).
Had no issues with online till this point. Just to reassure you and myself a bit, just booted MK8D and went online, played a regional game.
All went fine.

Ohhh...so you figure since I did use SX OS at one point, even if it was just me testing it and never did anything within it nor activated it, I have a high chance of getting banned when I go online?
If thats the case, there shouldn't be a reason for me to not buy the license and play the games I wanted?

Frankly, i don't play online, i stay offline except when i update all my games (backups, not original) and I never had any issue. and after speaking to several other users, everyone says the same, they are all fine.
Bans seems to be 100% related to LayeredFS. Do not install it ever, and you will be safe.

Yeah I plan to use backups of games I do not own but only offline. I don't really need to go online while playing the backups but I still didn't want to be banned if I do choose to go online in the future for either a new game or a game I own which is MK8D.
Though just curious, why do people play backups of their own games on the SX OS if there is a potential chance of getting banned? Cause if you own the game, you can just play it normally no?

If you ever connect to the internet with the switch then nothing is safe if you run homebrew/backups in any way. Nintendo is going hard on this. Like Xbox did on the 360 with the custom firmware drivers. They will detect non correct behaviour to ban all of us. The data on the banning is to little at the moment to draw any conclusions or to try to MINIMIZE IT. There is not going to be a "NoNintendoban.nro" or any way to unban a console since that is server side at Nintendo.

Their might be things we can do to Minimize!! the risk. But you have to take in to consideration that you will get banned. If you cannot take that risk then don't play around with homebrew/CFW/Hekate or backups.

For me personally homebrew and cfw wins over Nintendo online gaming/services. You have to weigh in the pro/cons in your decision

Just my 2 cents

So you think going online on OFW while have used SX OS is still safe? Not that necessarily need to but I do want to avoid getting banned for future uses of the switch but as for right now, I just wanted to try some single player games on the switch so being offline is okay for me.

It is a guessing game. Nobody knows for sure what is triggering a ban and what not. If you didn't play any games which have invalid certificates and didn't run homebrew etc. then maybe you won't be flagged.
TLDR: If you safely want to play online, buy the games and stay away from cfw. Everything else is risky at the moment (and probably months ahead)

Okay thats fair enough, but the thing is I have actually tried SX OS non activated before, so even if I did nothing while in SX OS, I am basically flagged to be banned? and at this point I have no reason not to buy the license code to play the games since I have already done the thing?

Nobody can answer that question properly. I would say don't go online with it anymore. That is the safest thing atm

For me the reason is simple; I am a physical collector, but I like the comfort of digital and I do not want to pay for a game twice.
That was my one gripe with Nintendo.

As for your plan on backups; some advice be careful. Scene releases lack cert headers.
The are more or less ff-ed out. That is a dead give away for Nintendo.
Also mimicking another game ... is a dead giveaway, if things do not match cert and game ... Nintendo will know.

I am not trying to get you scared or anything, better be safe then sorry.
In your case, if you dont go online with scene backups, you should be OK, BUT beware of updates aswell for those games then.

Its not certain yet that alone will make you get a ban. You might already be flagged but me personally dont think so. We dont know how Nintendo ban waves work yet. I can only tell from my own experience with Xbox 360 and they sometimes did bans in 6 months periods and then picked up alot of "non correct" activity. It seems like Nintendo is taking different approach and almost banning daily or weekly. If you like SX OS i think you should buy a license. Its a good product for launching backups. If you dont care that much about online and willing to take the risk then go for it! But never play online with backup games. That is a 95% certain ban.

Yeah so I actually have no idea how the switch works cause I never used it but I do hear a lot of people saying they need to update the game. So if I were to get a backup of a game and put it on my SD card with SX OS, can I not just play the game? Does it force me to update the game before I can play? I would be offline so I am not even sure how they would know the game need an update but yeah if I just wanted to play for example DOOM on the switch from a backup, can I just play it?

Sometimes you can, the Switch offers a dialog for optional updates, which also gives a start software option.
BUT some updates are mandatory, and then a game needs to be updated before you can start the software. (this normally happens in situations where your game requires a higher fw then you currently have)

I have not really seen games having an update when you are not online for themselves. So in such cases I guess you should be good as well.

Awesome, thanks for the info I think at this point I should just get SX OS and just play the games offline.

So since you been helping me with some info on this and it does not let me post a new thread maybe you can help me. So I did purchase a code and activated it and also put my games on it which took a lot longer than I thought but now my switch is saying I have to update firmware to use my sd card? I think its cause its exFat and its 64 gb. Do you or anyone who reads this have any recommendation on what I should do now? I am on Firmware 4.01.....
Didn't see this coming..
