Hacking SX OS contains brick code!

I don't think I'd want to send a unit to some overseas company that bricked it and hope they don't steal my information off of it.

When Gateway fucked up Devin's 3ds, they were sure they could fix bricks, but then they kept it "for research" and sent him a replacement 3ds, who is to say TX won't pull the same shit?

Community custom firmware that's open source or even reasonably looked at by respected members here is where my trust stops. This new bricking customers shit is ridiculous. Computer parts aren't perfect, and adding in anything that could potentially malfunction and brick a unit is unacceptable.

No respectable company should ever encrypt a user's data without their authorization.

What are you talking about? They can easily restore this from a boot.dat payload as it has direct access to eMMC. No need for overseas bull

This tweet is a contradiction. He claims brick code can trigger in normal usage(no proof) and then goes on to say that it's unlikely unless your messing with voltages and time sensitive stuff. So which one is it? This shows me he either has no clue how he got bricked or is really just smearing TX. Also I think he didn't detect the Crackersgetheboot.dat that was embedded.
Theoretically and technically possible, but unlikely. This isn't a contradiction.

What does "password generated from random garbage on the stack." means?

Just trying to inform myself here. Mike said that "in his case" the EMMC password generated like that.

The password is generated from stack garbage. They can't undo it.

Hexkyz said:

"Anyway, the concept is the same that was used by Gateway for the 3DS: your eMMC will be locked with a specific password. Sadly, in my case, the password was generated from random garbage on the stack. :("

From this it sounds like hexkyz modified the code in a way that prevent the "specific password" from locking, and instead hexkyz changed it into a random password from the stack (by accident).

So my point still stands and TX can unlock it if you didn't go messing about.

I think brick code sucks but in the case of gateway only affected 2 users and one tampered with the launcher for region free on classic mode, i don't think we will see the normal user banned because that user will not tamper it, they will protect their stuff like Nintendo will ban users, I think that is the sign to stop cracking sx os, just do your stuff as open source, even if its cracked I wouldnt try it more now

You can't claim something is "normal" and "highly unlikely" at the same time. by definition normal is conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected. It is a contradiction.
Well, you can get shot in "normal" day life but that is "highly unlikely" unless you mess with wrong person.

by definition normal is conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected. Getting shot is neither standard, usual, typical nor expected unless you live in Vietnam apparently.

Getting shot was nothing of normal but it can happen in normal life. So if I shot you right now does that mean your life wasn't normal?
