I am on exFAT (or you probably misquoted?)
My previous method worked fine on 5.0.2, soI now simply replaced my old loader.kip1 and sm.kip1 with the ones I compiled (i didn't touch any other file or folder, so still using old hekate_ipl.ini and atmosphere folder). Of course I had to chakge .kip extendions to .kip1 to match the ini file.

Unfortunately, after selecting "CFW" in hekate, I only get a black screen and I have to hard reset.

Hi,

I got my switch today, I updated from 3.0 to 5.1 (as I don't care about homebrews for now), waiting for cfw / piracy solution, as I read it's avaible for all switch, no matter what the firmware is, as B9S on 3DS.
I used the DNS here to block all futures updates, but when I try to play online in MK8DX, it's asking for Install or Run the homebrew Launcher :wtf:

Can't I just block all next updates (in case, we never know), while keeping all online functionalities (eshop, games...) ?
You can only use online functionalities while being on the latest firmware (or whatever firmwares are close as some people can go online with 5.0.2 for the time being). My recommendation would be to wait for Atmosphere to be finished which will have EmuNAND support and allow you to be on the latest firmware and use all online functionalities...but you're already on the latest firmware...

New user here, I was hoping to get some answers to some questions. I’m looking into getting into homebrew with my switch.

- My current firmware is 5.01, I hear that jumping the joycons will allow me to get into the homebrew stuff but should I either try and find a retail switch with v4 firmware or go ahead and stop updating my current switch and transfer my entire data to a new one?

- I saw a mario odyssey level editor, where does saves get stored on the switch? Cartridge or system itself? I’d like to play odyssey on both switches and not have my legit switch be compromised or the original save.
3.01-4.1 firmwares have a potential softmod for booting into the CFW however we don't know when it will be released. The reason it is being held back is the belief that it may not have been patched in firmwares 5.x so they will most likely test it first then decide what to do afterwards depending on the results. All firmwares will get access to the CFW at the same time so unless you plan on playing the waiting game with a 4.X console, you could just stick with your 5.0.1

Saves are stored on the Switch itself as the cartridges are read-only (much like the bootrom, which is important in that Nintendo can't patch our current exploit).

I bought a RCM jig and I have been trying to get it to work for weeks now but it doesn't work! I AM holding power and the + button, with the jig inserted, nothing. I have tried many different heights and have fiddled around with the jig. It literally just won't work!
Jigs will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you want to keep using it, you will have to adjust either the metal contacts or the jig itself so the contacts are touching pins 1 and 10. If not, you can consult this thread for other ways to boot into RCM: https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-ultimate-list-of-mods-to-enter-rcm.502145/
Do the Team Xecuter devs have a community forumn like the ReSwitch teams Discord?
Have you tried team-executer.com? They have a forum there as well.

Yeah I did...but it's mostly Xbox stuff. They have a dedicated switch site with no forum, as well.

They might not have a Switch section yet since their product hasn't been released yet and they want to avoid needless speculation. In the News sub-forum, there's a thread titled Team Xecuter coming to Nintendo Switch consoles. Have you read through that?

Will Atmosphere run programs that install games like the FBI app for 3DS?
Not at launch, but potentially down the line. We do have the games dumped in the proper format for them to be installed. It was the same case with dumped Switch cartridges but with no way to play said dumps. Now we have TX's modchip and soon Atmosphere may very well be able to do the same thing in the future. So, we will just have to wait and see.

I really just want to play emulators on my switch (NES, SNES, N64). My Switch is on FW 5.0.2. What is the easiest way to get there?

I have hacked a lot of devices, last Nintendo I hacked was the Wii. I feel comfortable doing it, I just get bogged down by so many hacks/mods here that I don't care about. From what I've seen I think I want to be in Homebrew and probably Retroarch, but individual emulators would be fine. I don't want to dual boot into linux. Just need to know the basic steps and I think I can figure them out.

I just got a switch and I dream of using it as a portable emulation station (a la OG Xbox on the move). Should I avoid going online/upgrading the FW for now? There's no hack or anything currently, I'm just playing Zelda...

Currently the only disadvantage is that hekate doesn't work, so you don't have homebrew launcher until Atmosphere is out (that may be soon).

When Atmosphere is out, will we be able to play some Switch games? I'm curious because I just bought a Switch and sadly I updated it without knowing I didn't need to. I want to know the consequences, are they too serious or I'm just going to need to wait a little bit longer for a free access to my Switch?

We don't have a specific guide for running emulators but the goal is going to be setting up the homebrew menu for you to install whatever working emulators we have now. You will follow this tutorial that will list all the steps you will need to set it up: https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-hacking-101-how-to-launch-the-homebrew-menu-on-4-x-5-x.504012/
Then you will head into the Emulators sub-forum of the Switch forums to download whatever emulators you want or use Google. Keep in mind that they are still works-in-progress and may not function properly.

I just got a switch and I dream of using it as a portable emulation station (a la OG Xbox on the move). Should I avoid going online/upgrading the FW for now? There's no hack or anything currently, I'm just playing Zelda...

1. There aren't that many disadvantages when you update to 5.1.0 right? I kinda wanna try out Mario Tennis
2. is this ebay one good? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-S...982305?hash=item1cacd8eea1:g:K~oAAOSwyGBa6L7Z any experience with it?

Currently the only disadvantage is that hekate doesn't work, so you don't have homebrew launcher until Atmosphere is out (that may be soon).

What? I thought 5.x.x supported hekate
Hekate does support all firmwares (its a payload.bin which Nintendo cannot patch out due to exploiting a bug in their read-only bootrom). However, the homebrew menu that is used by the scene is currently not supported on 5.1.

When Atmosphere is out, will we be able to play some Switch games? I'm curious because I just bought a Switch and sadly I updated it without knowing I didn't need to. I want to know the consequences, are they too serious or I'm just going to need to wait a little bit longer for a free access to my Switch?
Yes, Atmosphere will allow you to play your games while it is active. Unfortunately, Hekate does not support this at the moment.

Question, can I play my games in airplane mode the whole time when using SX and when some sort of emunand is out then play games online?
Yes, that would be an ideal situation to avoid getting yourself banned. This also urks me when people say that TX doesn't need EmuNAND support. They're just begging to get people banned.

Is it common knowledge that you can run a game and homebrew so long as you launch the game first and then the homebrew?

If you use Hekate to launch homebrew, you cannot launch games. Other means of launching homebrew such as Pegaswitch do not have this limitation.
That's not exactly what I meant. I was able to run games with hekate so long as I loaded it after the cfw booted. I've tried 3 times and have succeeded with the Kirby demo, FE warriors and Minecraft (had to reboot switch into cfw for each game individually).

My question was if everyone was aware of this
