Hello, I'm trying to unbrick my soft-bricked 2DS with a flashcart and the guide over at 3ds.hacks. So far I made to the point where I have hold Start + Select + X + Power to boot into boot9strap.
  • Since this is a 2DS, I don't need the magnet, I made sure to put it into sleep mode.
  • My flashed flashcart is inside the cartridge slot, along with it's microSD. (it was earlier flashed on my 3DS)
  • I hold the button combo from the guide, 2DS's power led turns blue, I let go of the buttons after a second or two.
  • The screen stays black and I can't get past it. As soon as I put the console out of sleep mode, it just shows me the home menu.
What am I doing wrong? Did I flash the flashcart wrong? Or maybe I should do it all on the 3DS since the guide only used "your device" instead of "source 3DS" and "target 3DS"? (I'm using the multi system method)

Hoping for a quick reply, Best Regards

Hello! I have two n3dsxl. Sadly one is not turning on anymore... is there any way to transfer the installed games (cia games) and save files to the another sd card somehow? I mean the other n3dsxl can read them. Homebrew access granted.
Only if you previously dumped the saves with JKSM, or, you dumped the moveable.sed while it worked. Are you sure it is dead?

Trying out that button combo didnt work either, and I believe that I flashed it correctly since I didnt get any errors and I followed the guide to a T. I could try again if that somehow is not my fault.

Try holding all the buttons except power for a few seconds after pressing power, and don't have the microSD in the flashcart. If that doesn't work, maybe the 2DS is not reading the flashcart (try putting a bit of paper inside the slot to help push the flashcart against the pins), or, the flashcart isn't flashed.

You're a savior!!!
It finally worked when I pulled out the microSD out of the flashcart and held the buttons longer after turning it on, whew.
I got a little lightheaded from the adrenaline rush once it worked, thank you very much!!

I have a small problem and can't find the solution.

I had a JPN 2dsLL it had CFW installed following 3ds.hacks.guide, I installed a lot of back ups from my 3ds games. everything worked perfect.

Today I changed the region to USA because I was fed up with the system being in Japanese,
I followed this guide 3ds.hacks.guide/region-changing.

The region change is successful, but none of my games, FBI, Luma updater and so on are there

Is there a way to restore everything?

thank you for any help

Hi guys. I have no idea what to do with this. In short i have no knowledge of how to hack or do something to this console. And i dont understand how to fix it tho. I dont even understand the terms you guys use in threads. I tried looking it up in youtube i really dont know if i theres a vid with an issue like mine.
Welp...
The thing is had my 3ds connected to wifi (when i was told not to) and accidentally updated an app then it crashed.
When it reboots it just goes to this (see pic) and hangs. When i try to choose one from one of the options there it doesnt direct me to the home page. Or where the games are. It just freezes.

I know i should have someone install a new cfw but im trying to see if i can do something about it myself.

Any advice?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

When i turn on my ds and just proceed as normal. After that screen it just goes to a black screen or stuck with the colored screen (either red, yellow or blue)
And it stays that way. So i just turn it off.
If i remove my sd card it directs me to the home screen where everythings okay but the games are inaccessible..

Help

So after Quantumcat saved me at one point, I'm stuck at another.
I'm at the point where the guide tells me to update my console by going to the settings, but I can't!
This 2DS is soft bricked in a way that I can't launch any games/apps on the console, and at the very top of the upper screen the bar where hour/battery/wifi should be, is basically gone. Is there some other way to perform a system update? Or is the procedure for unbricking with ntrboot different, which the guide doesn't cover? Once again, I'm still using the 3ds.hacks guide about ntrboot.

You could try recovery mode - L, R, Up, and A on boot. If it doesn't fix the home menu, next step would be to try a CTR transfer.

Help
Follow this
Clear Home Menu extdata
  1. Power off your device
  2. Insert your SD card into your computer
  3. Navigate to the /Nintendo 3DS/(32 Character ID)/(32 Character ID)/extdata/00000000/ folder on your SD card
  4. Delete the extdata file corresponding to your region:
    • EUR Region: 00000098
    • JPN Region: 00000082
    • USA Region: 0000008f
    • CHN Region: 000000A1
    • KOR Region: 000000A9
    • TWN Region: 000000B1
  5. Reinsert your SD card into your device

Then follow https://3ds.guide from the beginning (you can use the soundhax method). When you get the option to move emuNAND to your sysNAND, do that. You should get all your games back.

Were you able to update, but it didn't fix the home menu? Or did it not let you update?
It didnt let me update, there was an error on screen saying "an exception has occured", with the option to press A to save the error log file, and any other to turn off the console (or was it reboot?)

Hi again. I just installed a replacement top screen into my new 3ds xl but it seems the bottom is brighter than the upper. Is it possible to recalibrate them somehow?

if it makes things easier just recovering the save games would be good enough if there is no easy way to make the content of the sd card work again.
everything is still on the sd card the 2ds just doesn't show it on the home screen

You'll be able to be on the latest firmware, and play online, and not worry about being banned. You'll also be able to play DSiWare and GBA games, and you won't need an emuNAND. You'll be able to play original cartridges without having to boot into a different mode. If you currently use browserhax or DS profile exploit to launch Gateway mode, with B9S you will have everything there when you just turn it on, and it won't take any extra time. If you are using B9S or A9LH with Gateway, you have the risk of bricking or losing your hax if you accidentally boot sysNAND. If you have B9S or A9LH without Gateway, there's no risk. If you use "Gateway Fastboot" and your Gateway cartridge dies or you lose it, your console is effectively a brick, since it won't boot up without the card. If you have Luma instead of Gateway you can use its features - taking screenshots, cheats, etc.

It's always better to not have Gateway, you just have to decide if the bother of switching over is worth it.

3DNUS - an application to download firmware files.

I downloaded this app but I have no idea what should be the title ID of the official stock apps....is there an option to download just the apps or I will have to reinstall the whole firmware ?

You'll have to restore the prior NAND backup that was associated with the games. If you don't know how to get FBI back, follow https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup

I'm not sure sorry. If you do download them all they will be downloaded as separate files.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
