Apple rejects Steam Link iOS app from App Store

IMG_8182.JPG

If you were looking forward to the upcoming Steam Link app, and you own an Apple phone or tablet, you won't be able to use it, as Apple has denied the app from being on iOS devices. This change of heart comes after the company had originally approved the Steam Link app on May 7. Valve had made their official announcement, expecting nothing to go wrong. Near the time of launch for the app, Apple had quickly changed their decision, citing that the they had "business conflicts" with it that hadn't been originally discovered during the approval process, causing the app to lose certification and not be allowed on the digital storefront.

Valve has appealed the decision, stating that they are disappointed with Apple, and that they hope the company changes their mind. The phrase "business conflicts" hasn't been elaborated on, but it's assumed that Apple took issue with the app's ability to stream PC games to a phone or tablet, which would potentially cause Apple to lose sales on the mobile front. Steam Link is currently available for all Android devices.

Coming from an iPhone user, this is kind of shitty.
Especially because they provide no reason for it YET there's an app on App store, not endorsed by Sony that allows you to remote play from your PS4 to your iPhone (which works wonders, better than buying a Vita or a Sony Xperia just for Remote Play)
Even worse, if you own a supported Nvidia GPU, you can use Moonlight Game Streaming that's on the iOS App Store as well for PC games. Literally the same thing as Steam Link, just Nvidia only. There's literally no valid reason Apple could reject this while allowing other, similar apps as well.

Well the upgrade is mostly inside the device which make it’s lifespan more important and long.
I mean did you see S8 and S9?
Literally no difference physically wise.

I didn't pay attention to that to be honest.

Apple has made some pretty dumbass decisions, I'm not surprised.

Please tell me how Apple phones are superior to Android devices; if it can make phone calls, send and receive text messages, and in addition to playing media in some form and games, it's not superior.

Personally, I got the 8+ at the time (besides the extra discount) because:
1) Storage size (256GB)
2) Update support
3) One click backup via USB without p***ing about

The former two in combination have since seen improvements, oneplus now offering 256GB storage and I've heard Nokia is good (microSD support), but the latter is the main thing that would still keep me wanting iOS as my daily driver as the methods on Android can be a pain in comparison (ADB, MTP, root based apps, cloud, etc.).

I do use Android though, I have a Note 4 as a secondary phone and a Shield TV among other devices.

I actually have Moonlight installed on my Nexus 6. It works great with my GTX 1050 Ti over my local network. But Apple is just being Apple.

There is a difference between bullshit, and opinions my friend. If you think Apple is better. More power to you, but Samsung seems better than Apple for me. It is also funny how Apple uses Samsungs displays lol :rofl2:

I also don't see the point. Unless they reject the other streaming apps too, then again, that is still pointless. Not like everyone can or want to stream all the time.

Other news, Apple knew about bendgate ahead of release.

Speaking of which... Wasn't Rainway supposed to be released for iOS as well? I mean, if Moonlight is on the Appstore as well... why does Steamlink get taken down ASAP? You could say competition, but even then... there really is no competition.

It's just creepy that a company (Apple) has such control over a device I would supposedly own. I'm a grown man. I'm not 5. I don't need Apple to police what I may choose to install or not. It may go against their business model? Surely they have had their cut already for the £grand I paid for the thing in the first place. At the moment, Android is leading the way. Like it or not. It first got home to me how open Android was when I seen the ads for Winamp back in the day. I thought wow... Winamp on a phone? Open system? Gimme some of that. Yes it was jerky and slow in the froyo and gingerbread days, but it appealed. It is a pity that none of the competitors really got going... (M$)

I agree whole heartily. Ever since Android Ice Cream Sandwich. It has gotten so much better, and has become a consistent design language. Android not only is more jam packed with freedom, but offers better user experiences and performance. Android can be customized to fit a kid, grandmama, or advanced level Android user. The sky is the limit with Android. But Apple is one thing, one design, hardly any freedom, and locked doors. If you prefer a locked environment because you are most likely a masochist, who likes getting whipped by Apple to use their services and hardware as they see fit; then iOS and iPhones are for you.

fanboys eh, there is only two viable solutions and android is kind of crappy.
Opinions are opinions... but stating that Android is crappy is a huge in your face bold statement to wave around lol

EDIT:

I think both iOS and Android have their Pros and cons. iOS is actually a pleasing OS to use. If you like slow animations, and clunky UI design. But still an interesting take on animations, and graphic design.

So one sided, ios is faster and better than android. Android phones all use the same qualcomm socs that are several years behind apples socs (which also use more silicon and are much more expensive to make, do a little research). Google tracks everything you do and has no respect for intellectual property or privacy, while apple was actually fighting the fbi over them demanding a backdoor. Sometimes I wish apple would allow side-loading without having to buy a developer account, but its not enough reason to go android.

Tell that to the people over at Apple who wont even refurbish their own hardware. Or provide any real help for their customers. Also, you take me as an inexperienced user whom knows nothing. I have used Android devices for years on end, and even iOS devices. I have taken them apart, studied and repaired them, etc. Maybe you should bite off less than you can chew buddy.

Don't forget, Apple defines retina displays as 1280x720 IPS displays.

They even claim the 640p display of the iPhone SE is "high definition".
The term retina has to do with ppi and view distance, not just resolution. Samsung actually started defaulting some of their phones to output lower than native resolution by default and nobody even noticed.

which android phone maker has better customer service than apple? Google has some of the worst service in the world, apple easily beats Samsung in customer service and then the rest are a bunch of Chinese companies for the most part.. i dont care how experienced you are or what you take apart, it doesn't change the truth. Don't take my word for it, and certainly don't listen to cnet, engadget or other fools who have no clue. but heres a good link https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Apple-A11-Performance-Review-iPhone-8-Plus-Taking-Desktop
