Not sure but maybe they can stealth install a monitor software that checks whether there is anything odd going on and sends a report next time the console connects to the internet :ninja:
I suppose, though this hypothetical console will be offline only, a condition proposed by the user I quoted. The ban circumstance you propose requires the hypothetical console to cease its offline status after it has been hacked. This is not the same condition I was responding to.

Staying offline all the time is no different than being banned.

Honestly I just decided to buy a psp and hack that. It can play most emulators I'm interested in. Plus I haven't tried any psp games.
Maybe if we get something like retropie via RCM Linux I'll be interested, but right now I'm not taking the risk. Even when cfw comes I'll sit back and wait.
And I won't buy a new $300 system for emulators when I can get a used psp for cheap.

Lakka has been released for the switch, the thread is on here somewhere

The only thing that is still not clear to me is if you get banned will you still have your digital games. Because shiny was banned and said he couldnt play fast rmx online, but said nothing about offline play. So my question is: If you get banned can you still play your digital games?

Yes nintendo can't take away what you've already purchased. You just don't have access to the eshop or other online services other than console and game updates. If you ever need to redownload the games however, then I imagine your screwed.

It's a valid comment. Since what we've seen a lot are people can't just keep their grubby hands of cheating in online. So I wouldn't mind people getting banned for playing with pirated copies personally.
From what I've seen on gbatemp in a couple of threads:
Cheating in online matches and ruining other people's experiences = Perfect!
Piracy = el diavolo!!

Idk I've seen some people on here waive their fists angrily at cheaters, even if they support hacking. But your right about piracy, just saying the word can summon keyboard warriors in a flash.

Good. Nintendo should ban everyone who has hacked their Switch, even if for offline use.

So things such as homebrew or mods are immoral by your standards then? Yes there are those who will use the exploits to run backups that they do not own.

But that doesn't immediately invalidate the hard work of everyone else who is here to make the platform more enjoyable for what they wish to do with it.

People seem to be somewhat upset by Saiyan Lusitano's comment. I don't know if they are misreading it or I am.

I don't read it as any kind of condemnation of homebrew, hacking or similar. Merely a phrasing/restating of "if you hack then expect official online services to be gone".

He and I may or may not differ on the extent to which we care to see people wheedle their back online, and in what level of cheats we find acceptable (for instance I am perfectly fine with people generating legal pokemon) but as a general concept it is the standard play and way of the world.

To that end allow me to state that Nintendo should absolutely attempt to ban everyone who has hacked their Switch, even if for offline use.

If I was in charge, I would simply divide it up so that there was a section for normal play and a section for no rules cheat your ass off play. If people cheat in the normal section give them a couple of warnings and then start the suspensions/bans. No need to treat people like murderers for cheating on a game.

Man I wonder if there's already a thread talking about this exact same thing... I should search for it since its big news and probably already being discussed elsewhere...

-Thinks-... Never mind that's too hard! -POSTS NEW THREAD-

Anyway on topic:
There are TWO people who are banned and both admitted to using a downloader (CDN IIRC) that grabs content from Nintendo, which is our "good guess" at how they were caught as using said downloader requires a key/certificate unique to the switch, which then can be connected to your Nintendo account and they can ban any and all other switches linked to said account.

Guys don't get banned please.

That's easy, don't go online with a modded console, and disable WiFi. Why is this a hard thing for people to deliberate? Either get a second console, or not go online and sacrifice it for hacks.

Sorry for double post, some plans of my just went to crap and things are not working out, so I'm kinda stressed out pretty badly.

I never understood the "stay offline to not get banned" philosophy. At that point your just banning yourself.
If you try to keep it offline while using hacks then I can understand, but keeping outcome always means you might as well just be banned
Well yes and no. If you keep it offline you can "postpone" what Nintendo might detect and you might be able to wipe it afterwards. Never the less if you don't wanna risk getting banned, keeping it offline is the most safe way.
