Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - Launch Trailer

Hyrule Warriors is now available on the Nintendo Switch, in the form of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. The game launches today, May 18, 2018, taking the features from both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game and combining them, as well as adding new Breath of the Wild costumes.

Cut down enemy hordes as Legend of Zelda™ characters—in full 1080p TV mode—or in two-player on one system! Link and Zelda can battle in costumes from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, while Tetra and King Daphnes appear in scenes based on the Legend of Zelda™: The Wind Waker game. Find and care for fairies who will aid you in battle! All features and downloadable content from past versions of the game, including My Fairy mode and elements from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, can now be enjoyed in crisp HD on the Nintendo Switch™ system. This time, you won't face the dark sorceress, Cia, alone. Command legendary heroes and villains in battle to achieve objectives as you unleash special attacks. Advance the story to unlock characters, each with their own moves and weapon types. Collect rupees and other items to upgrade weapons and craft badges, which bolster your warriors' abilities. The fate of Hyrule rests in your hands!

Oh look ... another port with minimal new content added
In order to have all the content in Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition you would need to buy the Wii U version, all Wii U DLC, the 3DS version, and all 3DS DLC.

Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) - $15
Hero of Hyrule Pack (Wii U) - $20
Legends of Hyrule Pack (Wii U) - $10
Hyrule Warriors Legends (3DS) - $30
Legends of Hyrule Pack (3DS) - $15 (this comes with content not in the Wii U DLC pack)

Grand total: $90

As opposed to...

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition (Switch)
+ graphical improvements
+ framerate improvements
+ gameplay improvements
+ minor bonus content (skins)

Grand total: $60

You have to ask yourself what you actually want from the switch. Do you want ports from older consoles that you have already played and completed or would you rather have new games that you haven't played before. Because i would rather have the latter and is among the reasons why I haven't actually gotten the switch. There is just not the selection of games that would keep me interested in blowing the notes of a console and a bunch of games.

It's not an either or proposition. People need to stop pushing this false narrative. Ports take little time and effort, they can be developed simultaneously with brand new titles (Smash 5, Prime 4, Pokemon Switch, Bayonetta 3, etc).

why not just use the resources that would have been used on porting this game to making the games they have in development better

It doesn't work that way. Adding more people to a project doesn't automatically make it better. Also, development groups within Nintendo are already very efficient relative to say, Valve. If they get a Pokemon game and Smash game out in 2018 then they're absolute beasts.

It is a port with all the dlc. Not going to take that much time or many people. Besides there is in a fact a market for ports. They make money so why wouldn't they make more ports?

Don't get me wrong, even I'm opposed to ports when they're clearly just a cashgrab. However, WiiU ports make sense more than pretty much any other system given how few units WiiU sold in its lifetime. You're getting these games on a better console, and getting them playable in a portable form factor to boot. That's probably not going to convince people who were heavily invested into WiiU, but it will convince the majority of Switch owners who didn't own the previous Nintendo console.

Glad I skipped the WiiU. Just for this reason.

You got gameplay coded for two similar but ultimately different control schemes, possibly with combat system differences (balance tuning), possibly with new story content, and graphics that need to be improved in general. There's changes what needs to be made for Framerate balancing purposes, there's techniques that may have broken, hard. The graphical sprucing, etc. Underrating it as 'just a port' is quite frankly an understatement to the amount of effort they need to put in to not only get everything put in together, but make sure nothing gets broken.

The change in OS and stuff from Wii U and 3DS to switch might also have huge rammifications, and thorough testing needs to be done here too.

Please though, if you don't believe me, feel free to port a modernized TicTacToe program from a Windows OS to Mac OS, let's see how well that goes for you.

Ports are easier then full games. That was the only point I was making. The hell are you on?

Depends. Actually... He's got a solid point. Change in hardware/OS and all of the fun in between stuff has potential to make porting more difficult than it seems.

Well, considering they simulaunched Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch and 3DS, I don't think they had too much trouble with Hyrule Warriors.

As Memoir said, it depends. Changes in hardware, OS, etc, can make it infinitely more difficult than simply "Put Code from Console A into Console C". The smallest difference in even the architecture of the device can change how they need to program a majority of the game in order to get similar results.

Programming's not a simple task. Look at the difference between say Windows ME and XP. Or Windows 7 and 10. Those alone break programs without emulating the previous OS and usually affects the play.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
