Well this is a great start, the first time something different has happened. However all i get is a black screen, either with start or select or nothing pressed. If i pull the sd i can get back into luna

do you have a smaller SD card to try with?

try and test your SD card with https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539/download
i'm wondering if that is faulty

Im currently running running it, about another 12 minutes

Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 14.8 MByte/s
Reading speed: 20.7 MByte/s

when you start the 3DS up without the SD card, insert it after it loads, and see if it creates the home menu data
then look on the SD card to see if there is a Nintendo 3DS folder

ah ok, try format the SD card again, but choose 16k cluster size rather than 32k then put all the files back on

Hey Hunter thanks for the help, unfortunately my Internet dropped out last night, I had to postpone fixing the 3Ds till I get back from NZ, in about 10 days. I will let you know how i go when i get back.
