Hello everyone.
Yesterday I bought an old Nintendo DS system that was in really bad condition, but I got it anyway because it was only 3€, and it came with the r4i 3ds.
Also the person I was getting it from had no charger, but I did not care because I already had 4 (and a bunch of USB mini cables too).
After charging the console for a while, I realized it was not timing on. I know it was not the battery because I used it on my other system, and it worked.

So, are there any good ways I can make use of the thing?

What does the console do when you try to turn it on? Does the green light or the screens flash or something? Maybe there is any wire desconnected con the motherboard.

Turn it into a nice GBA.
Even though if you can't re-organize the Speakers, the games could be still hearable via Headphones.
That's what I did with four broken DS's.
I took them all and formed one DS-GBA hybrid.

It pretty much does nothing. No green light or anything.
I culd be the power button maybe... but I'm not really good at this.

What model is it, phat por lite? Did you open the console? Maybe the motherboard is damaged... If it is, you can only buy a new motherboard and replace it.

It's a DS lite.
I have considered but haven't opened it yet.
And yes, I think it is probably the motherboard.

I hear broken systems make excellent doorstops.

On a more serious note, use it for some sort of creative project. Maybe you could put the DS in a frame, with the stylus to the side. It would be very avant garde. It's either that or you use it for spare parts.

Why would you want a diseased donkey , he wants uses for his DS not animal cruelty/s

Back on topic, making it a DS-GBA is a good idea.
Yes, it's a good idea, but i don't if it'll be possible. The Ds doesn't turn on the green light, so it wont boot any game even modding the console.

Does it charge correctly or if you plug it in, the orange light comes on for a split second then turns off. If it's the latter you may just need to bridge one of the fuses.

You can use it for solder practice to learn console modding :)

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
