So, I was recommended here off of another site when no one seemed to have any better idea of what to do than myself, so I'm really hoping someone here will have some kind of an idea as to what to do.
My daughter spilled juice on my N3DS a few months back. It's a newer model XL. I went in and scrubbed off the residue with a soft toothbrush and some isopropyl alcohol. Reconnected everything and, when booted, the screens came up black and I could hear some noises in the background. When I used the A+Up+R+L boot method to go into the system update, both screens work, as do my controls, sound, and the wi-fi. I've tried doing the update, but my system is still up to date because it had been updated not long before the incident (it still is up to date as of today as well).
After scouring the internet for clues as to what might be the culprit, I came across a tip yesterday that said someone had encountered a similar problem and disconnected the camera, which had fixed the problem. After doing this and retrying, I now get an Error code telling me to hold the power until it turns off and then turn it back on instead of just black screens on the regular boot, which of course does nothing to resolve the issue. System update mode still works just fine.
I feel like there has to be something I'm missing, especially since all of the components seem to work just fine in the System Update mode and the change from black screens to error codes after disconnecting the camera ribbons. If anyone has encountered this issue or knows any solutions, I'd be forever grateful. I miss my Pokemon, dammit, lol.
