Hardware New 3DS XL Screens only display recovery mode

Hi !
Someone gave me his "not working" n3DS XL.
The sound works, i can hear the home menu music. But nothing else work. Buttons won't do anything and to power off the console, i have to keep the power button pushed for 10 seconds.
When i close the console, the sounds stops, but when i open it back, it doesn't come back.

When i boot on recovery mode... everything works. Even the screens. That's weird, never seen that before.
So i think that that it's a software problem. But i don't know if i can format the console or doing anything else that could resolve the problem. The first time i booted in recovery mode, it updated the console, but nothing changed.

Screens still doesn't work with ntrboothax so can't do anything with it i think.

This is kinda a long shot but you could try resetting home menu
L + R + Down + B held while powering on.

Otherwise you probably need a ctrnand transfer.

Okay that's reeeaaallly weird.
I have control on home menu for like 2 seconds when i boot the console. And i managed to launch a DS game with screens working... -_-
But have black screen when going back to the home menu.

Tried the same with a 3DS game. I hear the high sound when you launch a game and nothing. No sound no display.

Ntrboothax doesn't seem to work. Or i'm not doing things correctly. I'm trying again

Finally ntrboot worked and i managed to install luma. I made a ctrnand transfer but it still shows a black screen on home menu. But the screens works on payloads. So i can use godmode, etc...

I have 2 crash dumps if it can help.

Since i made a ctrnand transfer, on home menu, sound stop after 3 seconds and i cannot do anything. I don't have time to launch a nds game anymore.
Recovery Mode now fails to update the console.

Actually, it would be interesting to have one of those "bricked" 3DS and try to replace the parts one by one. If it is a damaged front camera then it could be fixable.

You have crash dumps? When were they generated? Can you send them?

Since I began recording the years, you're the third person who has a n3DSXL with this brick made between 2014 - 2015. Although it's still too soon to say for sure (need more data), something tells me early production n3DSXL are more prone to it.

We don't know what causes it, most likely hardware or mcu related.
If the motherboard is replaced with a working one and it boots, then it's the MCU, otherwise it's something else.

I attached the crash dumps. They happened only twice when i was forcing the console to shut down.

No since i got this console already bricked. It wasn't hacked before

I will soon get the screwdriver needed to open the console. Did any of the other bsod victims opened their console? Couldn't it be like the wifi card issue like on o3DS?

Hold off from opening your 3DS with a screwdriver. The n3DSXL doesn't have a detachable WiFi module.

he might of used either the wrong region or wrong system (o3ds CTR flashed on n3ds)

Could you try the following steps?
Go to Godmode9 -> CTR NAND -> title folder -> 00040130

Then check if you have 20002202 and/or 00002202 folders.
