I think you will be able to downgrade to 4.70 at the least. That means that the 4.70 backup injection expoit will be available to you maybe.

You have a cech-3 console so downgrading is not possible for your console at this time as there isn't a mtldr2 exploit out so you cannot use a nocheck patched firmware to get to a lower firmware

If your going to buy one then it's the 2500 models that need Checking
You can do it via the date code / or date in USA

250x is fine as long as you check the date/date code, it's on the bottom label. People selling on ebay must wonder why people message them about such a "trivial" detail.

Most 250x can be downgraded to 3.55, some can be hacked with 4.30 checkoff but the ones with metldr2 are unhackable. Keep to date code 0d / date in 2010 consoles and you should be safe without using minverchk before you buy, if you want to try a later one then you're taking a huge risk buying it before running minverchk. I'd avoid the ones that need 4.30 (minverchk will return 3.56) just because you'll probably be the only person trying to make it work.

I'd still use minverchk before you try to hack it no matter what console you buy, in case someone has swapped the motherboard (even if the warranty seal looks fine).

Pity, no support for Super Slims.

Super Slims are pretty gnarly. I'd probably choose a CECH 3000 if they had an exploit. However this progress is creating interest and I think we might see a tethered jailbreak for metldr.2 consoles off the back of it. Then maybe we'll see an untethered jailbreak using a buffer overrun in the boot process.

Having troubles running the NOR Dumper tool, will keep you guys updated.

EDIT: Got the exploit to work properly after using Red the Trainer's website and managed to install Ferrox 4.82, then used HABIB's Toggle QA to install Rebug 4.81 REX and I can safely say, its about time we got an exploit like this, Sony won't be fixing this so soon.

Success! Returning from my local Hard Off now with a CECH-2500 with a manufacture date of 07/2010. Minimum firmware 3.40.

This is one of the newer exploitable devices so I'm really pleased. Time to retire the old Phat.

I also ended up having one of the slims that just barely made the cut, I've had a hacked ps3 phat since 2011.. gotta say I am really happy with the 10c dip in temp and the lower profile. The fan is also a lot more quiet and I love the matte finish over the gloss.
