This thread is great. I lost some brain cells reading it.
In fact he's even contradicting himself. The Switch meets those specs.
We can't even read Wii U discs on a PC. The only thing that can read Wii U discs is a Wii U.like the title says, is it possible to make something that reads wii u discs on the switch? obviously there isn't homebrew yet, but would it be possible if there was?
Didn't say that.Yeah, because the Switch has a fucking PC GPU and CPU, right?
IT'S A MOBILE ARM PROCESSOR, IT WON'T RUN NO MATTER WHAT, IT IS *IMPOSSIBLE*
It's a fucking tablet processor running on it's iGPU with just 4gbs of ram. There is no way in hell this will ever be possible, specially because CEMU is made for x86, try even porting it to ARM, it's not easy and if you manage to do it, it won't run either way.
Didn't say that.
Just said that according to his list of specs, the Switch fits the bill, apart from the OS.
It does OpenGL. It has 4 gigs of RAM. It has GPU drivers.
An iGPU is a GPU.Everything has "GPU drivers", the fuck are you talking about.
And it said an NVIDIA GPU, not an iGPU.
Everyone knows that it means a GPU, there's no way in hell you'll get an iGPU running CEMU.
And 4gbs of ram is the minimum, it just won't even run right on 4gbs. Who even uses 4gbs on a PC nowadays anyway?
You can read a Disc fine in the PC, but you can't read the data on it since there is no drivers/software/fileformat for it on the PC, Wii U discs are just blurays with a proprietary format. How else do you think they manage to dump the discs before? We can't even read Wii U discs on a PC. The only thing that can read Wii U discs is a Wii U.
And even if we could, Switch is ARM based and the Wii U is PowerPC, so it would require emulation, which the Switch is not powerful enough to do at more than 1-2 FPS, nevermind that the Switch doesn't even have homebrew yet.
An iGPU is a GPU.
Everything that has a GPU has drivers, correct. Which is exactly why my point is nothing but stating that it fits those specs.
Why are you arguing me on whether it's gonna run it or not?
They probably used homebrew to dump the disc. You can read a Disc fine in the PC, but you can' read the data on it since there is no drivers/software for it on the PC. How else do you think they manage to dump the discs before?
Linux can read it fine and then do a dd on it and save as an image.
I'm really not. I was pointing out that it's contradictory to claim something using an irrelevant list of specifications which are already satisfied.Because your original post made it seem like you think it will run.
Maybe you should try and make what you're saying clear and avoid getting into useless arguments.
You're making yourself look stupid.

Yes, now days they most likely use Wii Us to dump. But I mean in the beginning it wasn't that easy. They probably used homebrew to dump the disc.
If it's that easy to dump WUDs then why isn't it mentioned anywhere?

Some people don't understand what the "i" stands for apparently. What if I told you: The Switch has an iGPU?
Every SoC including Tegra has an iGPU.
Anyway iGPUs can run some games on CEMU, Mario Maker for example.

Actually, it is powerful enough for some games running CEMU, it all depends on the graphical fidelity that is needed and how optimized CEMU could be for unit. Never the less, an iGPU (APU or Intel iGPU?) can run CEMU, not just well.I didn't say it doesn't have one, for fucks sake!
But try running CEMU on a low powered tablet iGPU. You KNOW it can't be done. The Switch is simply NOT powerful enough for it.
And it's ARM. Not even Nintendo would be able to get emulation going, ports can be done, but emulating a PPC device on an ARM device just doesn't seem feasible, specially considering that the Wii U is pretty powerful.
This is the same thing as asking if you can emulate DS games on a 3DS. It's not doable.
