You can actually spin Cappy in a circle without motion controls. Just spin the left trigger in a circle until Mario starts spinning really fast, then press y to make Cappy go in a circle.
oh :o ? Good to know then ! It's was one of my issue with the game ! Thanks !

@urherenow I'll take back what I've said then xD

No problem. It's a really good idea to go look through the action guide and start experimenting with chaining moves. You can pull off some pretty cool stuff with jumping, diving and using Cappy, just takes some practice.

P.s. some moves still require motion controls iirc, but most are minor and none of them are mandatory to acquire power moons.

Name them, please. The only thing I've found is making Mario climb faster. Then again, I'm only at the metro stage...

Simple stuff like rolling faster (you can roll fast with y, but shaking makes you roll much faster) or climbing poles faster require you to shake the controller. I wanna say the homing cap is motion controls only also, but I think I somehow pulled it off with buttons the other day so not too sure on that one. There might be some others too iirc but I'm too lazy to go look them up right now.

Basically very minor moves that don't really matter unless your speedrunning.

gosh seeing as how there are over 800 moons I guess this game does not ramp up until after its beat. I think that was a great idea on nintendo's part. I had rated it at 8.8 but that makes it a solid 9. Might make 9.5 depending on the remaining content. When I saw Yoshi I nearly flipped!

I thought it was simple to intuit. Throwing cappy can be done by flicking a controller, right? Flicking the controller again does the homing thing, right? So do the same thing with buttons (hit the button to throw it twice). Of course it doesn't work if there is no enemy close enough...

Same thing for rolling. Just keep hitting Y. I guess I have to try motion controls to see if shaking makes you roll faster than repeatedly tapping Y.

Bottom line, I wouldn't think there would be an option to disable motion controls without contingencies built-in.

Edit: Maybe I should wait until I get home from work so I can actually do it a few times. My memory isn't what it used to be.

What are these "forced" motion control moves? I've found nothing yet
as i mentioned earlier there are a few moons that aren't possible to get without using them. mostly after you finish the story.

Dr. Mario after I used the Amiibo. So cool.
also unlockable in the game without it :P

Didn't know the homing cap was available through normal buttons, thanks for sharing that. Now that I think about it you can throw Cappy in a certain direction, including directly up using motion controls only IIRC. I saw a speedrun earlier where the guy threw Cappy directly upwards using motion controls, backflipped and jumped off a wall and landed on cappy, which gave him an extra jump boost. Pretty insane. So pretty much every moon is acquirable using regular controls afaik, just throwing Cappy in a certain direction, climbing poles or rolling faster requires shaking the controller.

not entirely you need to use some creatures special moves using MC to get a few. the frogs super jump for instance there is a moon not possible to reach without it in cap kingdom.
Hmm, it's only acquirable through motion controls? Let me go grab my switch and see if there's a way to make a frog super jump using buttons only. Brb.

Hmm, no way I could get it to work. However I do think it would still work in handheld mode by simply shaking your entire switch (kinda stupid that it's not mapped to a button and you look dorky while shaking it, but it still works).

as i said there are only a few moons that need MC. another one i can think of is you need to use the flying goombas fly faster to get one and a few more i can't remember exactly but i know they need them.

I have no test it already ( i decide to try again Mario sunshine which i hardly play it on the past).
But i think (when i play i could confirm ,until them i prefer keep far from vídeos,spoilers..) it could be a little disappoint because i prefer more direct action without the sandbox part .I love galaxy ,Land 3d and world 3d games ).

Some people are exaggerating a bit with the openness of Odyssey, it's still very much progression-based. Always plenty to do in any given world and in any given area, I've found.

I hope this.I could talk about when i finish Mario sunshine and test it.
(But now i am playing shantae Gbc which i am fall in love ,and i am a person of only one game on time .maybe more if the other are minigames, puzzles ..)

I gave it a 9/10 even though it's not my favorite Mario game

I am kind of old fashioned in my gaming tastes. I have owned almost every Nintendo console since the NES, the only exception being the GameCube. I have played almost all the Mario games (with the exception of the RPG style ones).

When I pre ordered the Switch at launch it was with a future Mario game in mind. The months leading up to launch were obviously exciting seeing all the videos being posted of what was to come.

The game itself is beautiful, vast and has plenty of longevity, with sub games and plenty of moons to collect after the final boss.

From a personal stand point I don't love it as much as I had hoped I would, I find the camera is not great, the game itself reminds me more of a Zelda game than a Mario game. At the beginning of this post I wrote I am old fashioned and I am, I far preferred Super Mario 3D World on the wii u which for me was the complete Mario experience. I liked the structure of 3D world and find it hard to adapt to this style, but that's not to say I will give up or not grow to love and enjoy Odyssey more.

Even though I prefer previous Mario games I still think this is awesome, I just need to keep a pack of head ache pills at hand (I suffer with motion sickness and migraines) when playing it.
