Gaming What score do you think mario odyssey will get?

Looks like Mario 64 with better controls and a hat gimmick, I'd give it an 8/10 or 7.5/10 based purely on what I've seen of it and my experience with Mario 64.

It's not a gimmick if the game world is designed around it, it's an intentional mechanic. That very much seems to be the case for Odyssey, with certain areas only reachable by possessing certain things with Hatty McHattington, etc.

Technically the definition of a gimmick is "a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business" and I think that's what the hat is because it's on all promotional material and they focus on it a lot.
That being said, I'm not using the word gimmick to describe it as a bad thing as it may very well work out to be super cool and awesome.

Understandable, the hat and the game world are what make Odyssey unique, and we've seen plenty of both in the marketing. In every other way it's exactly like all other 3D Mario games, but of course that's a solid foundation to build on.

"Based on trailers" yeah great thanks jimbo trailers really showcase a game well.

Gimmicky looking, yet fun and adventurous. It has that lovable Nintendo charm, but that factor doesn't always prevent a game from being bad. There's pros and cons, and a lot of hype, saying flat out that it's going to be a personal 10/10 is obnoxiously ignorant. Will it actually get hyper-inflated scores because "Nintendo"? Of course. Whether or not it actually deserves it, however, is a different story.

You guys have to understand reviews are subjective. If you want to buy a game based solely on reviews, look around and compare opinions. I don't expect any score from Odyssey. All I can say is that is looks fun, but somewhat empty from the trailers; not really enough to form a proper opinion.

If you end up disagreeing with Temp's score, by all means write your own review. I'll definitely read it.

Edit:
As an added note, be sure to read the review. What a number means is the most subjective part of all (eg, I think a 7's pretty dang great, but a lot of people would see it as a failure nowadays), the written experiences however, can often be taken for what they are. Just something to keep in mind I suppose. Too many people just skip to the summaries and rant about the final score.

Edge already gave it perfect score.
By the way when you do a review of this game on this site please don't give it to sony fan boy or it will get 7.5 again.
There are so many crappy games on this site that got more than 7.5.
I'm not saying that zelda deserve 10 but it should got 8/10.

It will get a good score.
Personally it is the first Mario game that does not interest me at all when I look at trailers.

I m not sure why ... seems pretty awkward to me..

I preordered it to prove me wrong ... hope I did not waste those $...

It will be 10's almost guaranteed.
Regardless of the reviews I am getting this, I've not been excited about a Mario game since Sunshine but this one has me so hyped.
It probably won't get a huge amount of play by me but my kids will love it so I know it's a worthwhile purchase long-term.

Hey.. the review is just an opinion and not a fact. I dont buy games from the review at all. I buy games for myself to like it or dislike it. If I dislike it then I return it to the store for a refund. That's simple. I dont trust REVIEW at all. It is just silly anyway.

I don't trust review scores for big-name titles. For small titles and indie games, sure, see what people are saying about it before sinking some dosh. But a long-running established franchise like Mario or Zelda? Why even care what reviewers say, you know what it's all about.

Big-name titles are the most subject to biased, or exaggerated reviews. It's either a perfect 10/10, or reviewers will write deliberately controversial reviews for clicks. At any rate, it's disgusting.

Ten minutes of research is all you need to know about Odyssey. Compare that information with what you've come to expect from Mario games and make the decision for yourself.

Apparently everything Nintendo does is a gimmick nowadays
