Except Capcom's one of the few game companies that doesn't have a history of doing that. See: That time they backed a Mega Man fangame.

Sorry if it has been asked & answered before, but if I buy a physical cartridge of DGS, will it work on my PAL 3DS if I use some kind of homebrew trickery in it (which is probably needed for patching the cartridge anyway)? Or do I need a Japenese 3DS?

You're missing my point. Your argument was that pirating DGS harms Capcom, and my point is that it literally can't. Piracy's only harmful because of pirated copies representing lost sales. If a game wasn't released in your country, there are no "lost sales" in the first place.

No, I think I addressed your point. DGS (and DGS2 even more so) didn't do that well in Japan either. So supporting the Japanese version would also help. If you've played the third part, it does feel like it was originally meant to be a trilogy. Of course there's no way to prove that, but most people who finished it seem to agree on this.

Part of my point is also to support the series in general. I know many people played pirated copies of the games and while I do understand that importing the original Gyakuten Kenji 2 (AAI2) is pretty expensive (because it's kinda rare now), everyone who enjoys the series should consider buying the games if they can at all afford them. Even retroactively - there've been a few sales of them already, and most of the series is now also available on iOS/Android.

Dai gyakuten is doing fine in Japan. It even got a sequal. Unless Capcom knows a lot of sales are coming from other countries, it wont have effect. I think the main reason is just to support them I guess.

Again, I can't prove it, but I would be very surprised if they didn't keep track of how many copies go to exporters like play asia, yes asia, etc. Amazon JP may share their numbers, too. In times of Big Data, it's hard to imagine they don't track this.

Also, @Uwabami, have you tried pitching the fan translation to Capcom? Considering the whole thing with Street Fighter X Mega Man, they'd probably be cool with making it an official localization.

No, we have not. While we are trying to stay on their good side, a fan translation is always in a legal grey area. Of course most companies graciously turn a blind eye to projects like ours (except when they plan to make official releases), but they are unauthorized. If we were approached by CAPCOM for them to sell our fan translation on eShop, I'm sure everyone on our team would be proud of that. But actively approaching them (especially before we're done) is probably not a good idea.

Yes, it works on any 3DS using Custom Firmware (CFW) or Homebrew. CFW is the preferred method, here is a guide: https://3ds.guide/. You should use this guide and not some YouTube videos, because they're often outdated and dangerous. If you need help, I highly recommend the Nintendo Homebrew Discord.

I really apologize if this has been asked before, but, to give a little context: I am extremely fond of my 3DS and CFW's are not something i plan on installing: EVER! Even if it IS to play a game i want to play more than any other game. I want to keep it as legit as possible, that's why i buy games directly from the E-shop, no BS. So i ask, is there, and WILL there ever be a way to patch and run this NOT on a CFW 3DS? Keep in mind, i don't mind using Homebrew Launcher and alike, seeing as though it doesn't actually hurt your N3DS (as far as i'm told"). Hell, because of the region locking, i can't run the OG cart (that i have no objection to purchasing from play asia or ebay) on the system. Again, i apologize if this is an ignorant question. I am a newbie, only got my 3DS last month, and i don't have the money for a new one. Thank you to whoever responds.

Why do you not want to install cfw.
It's pretty easy and give many advantage.
There is really no risk of bricking your 3ds.

The best you could try is messing with HANS, but I have no clue on how to get you started with that. Hell, I don't even know if HANS works on modern FW, it's been more than a year since I've used it.

It's much easier to get CFW though. It won't block eShop access at all and you can keep playing online (just don't start pulling shit that might annoy the Big N such as cheating or other oxymorons).

Fan efforts like this are a good part of the reason I decided to start learning Japanese; the passion and skill that goes into these projects- both this and AAI2 before it- are astounding. I'm nowhere proficient enough in my Japanese to actually help yet- if you were looking for people anyways- but I look forward to playing the first episode later on, and seeing the rest of your project come to life. Keep on keeping on guys

Whatever you “believe” will happen is not set in stone. And if anything I’d hope they’d complete it before they even considered approaching. If it gets hit with DMCA then all is lost.

GK2 was another team, the DGS team is a totally different one. Let's hope that now that they understand more or less how the game works the translation gets a little bit of speed.

Ok, you have me interested. Would you happen to have a guide to install such CFW? I've only heard how dangerous it is and how it can't be done on latest OFW, and how complex the process is. Thanks in advance!
