80 dollars is over priced as you can get another flashcard I can't remember the name but it is 25 dollars and you can use it for ntr boothax get cfw and use freeshop and play the games online as well (I do not endorse piracy in anyway shape or form though)

Its 2017, we have freeShop.

Yeah, until Ninty shuts down their 3ds servers and since freeshop replaced pretty much everything else there isn't any good way to download a "good" cia of your games anymore. Sure, you can technically dump it with godmode9 but it is a royal pain in the butt (you have to go into fbi, write down or memorize the title id, reboot into gm9, then dump the game, repeating the process for each title) and I doubt it produces a "good cia".

Considering that a Sky3DS+ costs $100 here and is nigh impossible to get and has limitations (I imagine that fussing with stuff like that would be a pain...)

Godmode9 can search for titles in sysnand sd, showing the title...
And ninty is supporting the 3ds into 2019, and probably won't stop the servers until a while after that.

Because 'after 2018' means at least 2019. It's a pretty simple concept. And as for the eshop past 2019, they didn't close down the dsiware shop until years after the dsi was discontinued.

Sorry, basically, that the Sky3DS+ had limitations (needed headers for games) and it was a pain to use (especially the original one where it was mind boggling to use - I sold one to a friend who had a mac and no idea how to use the thing)..

They can, but they are an objectively inferior format. You have to patch each rom to be able to play online with them.

Correct, its a different format that relies on RomID instead of console id.

As for this cart - I really doubt that it'll have CFW like gateway, it looks like sky3ds with added ds mode. Not sure how you'll be able to switch modes but these 2 buttons on top indicate that it'll have sky3ds-style games switching.
If it costs the same as sky3ds then its worth it, you basically get free ds mode + ntrboot if you need to install cfw. And even after installing cfw you can continue to use it for quick and easy running of .3ds games
But if it costs more then I'm not sure whats the point. If you don't want to hack your 3ds then just buy sky3ds, if you want to hack buy much cheaper r4i gold.

Even if you do like .3ds files better (even though they are harder to obtain) it is simply a lot of effort to put into a cfw for something that will probably only be used for piracy.

For people saying it's not GW, a quick WHOIS shows literally the same results for both gateway's site and stargate's site. Doesn't 100% confirm it's GW but it's pretty likely imo.
If it was Sky3DS, they would have went with WhoIsGuard again imo.
