There is no desire to do this, and there never will be.
You are talking about j2me. An obscure java implementation that never enjoyed much popularity/development.
It would take more work to create a j2me runtime than it would to just remake the small handful of crappy games that were developed for it.

This is incorrect on so many counts I'm not sure where to begin.

Is there desire for it? At least some, this thread exists, and I'm sure others have hoped for it, too. Are there any devs who want to do it? Unknowable without any coming forward, but "there never will be" is a completely unsupported position. J2ME runtimes have been built for both GBA and NDS, so one for 3DS also is not outside of the real of possibility in terms of the necessary time, effort and ability to get one up and running.

And "obscure"? "Never enjoyed much popularity"? "Small handful of crappy games"? Java was installed on practically every single cell phone marketed in the west for well over a decade. It's what the majority of all phone games were between the monochrome Nokia Snake era and the current smartphone one. There must be thousands or even tens of thousands of Java phone games, many of them fun.

"You are talking about J2ME" was the beginning and the end of everything in your post that was correct.

Hey man, why are you saying it wasnt popular when it was on every phone before the smartphones came? Do you know how much time I spent in my childhood playing those games, how much were we talking about them in the school (me and my friends), there are plenty of great games for the platform. I remember one that I liked so much, that I evem didnt want to switch to smartphone. And it was AAA type of game... please, you are the only one here who thinks that its stupid and unpopular ....

Yeah, that's definitely a pretty asinine statement. J2ME was huge worldwide. It wasn't super huge here because many people stuck with less-capable bar-style and flip-style phones well into the 2000s and then just jumped straight to an early Android or iOS device. But it still got a large amount of usage. And the market for those types of games and apps in Europe, Russia, India, China and Africa was truly enormous. (Japan had stuff like i-mode that served a similar purpose.)
Hell, even now new Java ME games get made; Gameloft just put out a Java ME version of Sonic Runners Adventure while simultaneously soft-launching a smartphone version for Android in Russia.

As for the OP's question, there's currently no way to run Java ME stuff on 3DS unfortunately. Maybe someone could come up with something based on PSPKVM; the source code is out there on SourceForge. Not sure it would be a trivial port, though...

Before anyone else suggests "Minecraft" it's not the same as J2ME (the one the old mobile games run on). Minecraft won't EVER run on 3DS unless they make a from-scratch clone, which is NEVER going to be the real thing.

Thread cleaned.

Nobody cares about j2me nowadays, thats very sad. There was even j2me magazines about mobile games(j2me and android/ios) called Best Games and M.T.O.G, but they are in Russian. Btw, i can mark some of the most interesting projects for me: Doom/Wolfenstein/Orcs and elves rpg and dialogy of the aces of the luftwaffe serious. J2me had bad quality of sound, bad graphics but sometimes games on it were so markable for players! Please, somebody, make j2me emulator for 3ds, its very needed!

I mean... This isn't enough of a reason to bump a thread from 6 months ago.

I used J2ME briefly before smartphones.
The problem was that many phones came with a locked implementation.
Even when I had a phone that had an unlocked implementation of J2ME the games were not great.
The best use I found for J2ME was emulation. It seemed to me like most of the good J2ME games I found were clones/remakes of popular games. Then the overwhelming majority of J2ME games were low effort/quality garbage.

Saying "many J2ME games were good" completely ignores reality.
