I have a New 3DS XL on 11.3 with CFW and would like to download some DS games to play on it. I've read the TWLoader is working on this but their game compatibility list is very limited right now and doesn't yet support the games I want to play, so I'm resorting to flashcards. I am looking to buy this flashcard: http://www.oz-3ds.net/product.php?id_product=28

Here are the questions I have:
1. Can I save my game progress on the flashcard?
2. Can I enter sleep-mode while playing a DS game via the flashcard?
3. Can I play online?
4. I was watching a youtube video where the person said I would need a DS/DSi to flash firmware on this or something. Is this true? Because I don't have neither.
5. Is there a step-by-step guide for first time installation?
6. Leave any other pros/cons if you have experience with this particular flashcard

I would recommend using ttds, very cheap and has all the functionality you would need and I used it for the last decade or so... and it is supported on 3ds if you have cfw even tho they say its not.and its really cheap.
The answer to all your questions is "yes", tho the online for ds games is long gone (servers are down). I mean, there are no flashcarts nowdays that dont support saving the game or sleep mode... about needed prep. You just download some files they tell you to, and place them on the root of the sd card.. I would recommens using ys menu instead of wood, looks a little worse but has better compatibility and loading times from what I experienced

1. Yes for normal saving technically it saves to the micro sd in the flashcard not the flashcard itself. real time saving... maybe
2. Yes
3. No... Yes... kindof https://wiimmfi.de/
4. Luma deletes the whitelist so most newer cards just work without needing to reflash nds cards
5. no, it's pretty much unzip and copy paste os onto sd card, copy game files onto sd card, put sd card in flash card and put in 3ds and boot.
6. They all work about the same, some have a bit better compatibility, some drain the battery more,

For instance, the DSTwo for sure has Real time saving; but I never used it, it also have additional cpu and few more features like gba emulator that uses extra cpu. but due to the cpu your battery dies faster.

Thanks for the answers! So I guess I'm safe for question 4 then? No DS/DSi needed.

Its not like some of the flashcarts are better, they are all the same (except the dstwo(+) which u dont need)

I own a Supercard DSTWO and a pair of DSTTi cards and can highly recommend both of them with the utmost confidence.

Edit: I'm reading sites saying the DSTTi can't work on 3DS consoles but I don't think I ever had a problem with it; other than having to do firmware updates via a DS lite, it has always seemed to work on my 3DS. Now that my 3DS is running CFW, though, I can't honestly test it.

@ilovemygames
Get this cart instead: http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149
It's the best cheap cart on the market. High compatibility using official Wood R4 and doesn't have a timebomb in the kernel like a lot of cards do nowadays (stops working after a year or two then you need to set the time back to keep it working which messes up time based events in games)
It also has RTS, something not normally found in the cheap flashcarts.
It also works on the latest 3DS (and of course DSi) firmware even without CFW.

The only cart better than it is the DSTWO(+) with all its extra features but that costs at least twice as much and most of the extra features (GBA, SNES emulation) are only useful for DS/DSi consoles since the 3DS already has emulators for those systems. So unless creating cheats is important to you the R4i Gold 3DS I linked is the best 3DS flashcart.

If you want to use R4 Wood Kernel, you need to go with R4i GOLD 3DS RTS , @Crystal the Glaceon recommend it.
But, if you don't want Wood Kernel Features, you can go for a $4 cheaper R4i-SDHC 3DS RTS, which recommend by @gnmmarechal.
Both of them support real time save and cheats (Not real time cheating like DSTWO).

This is what R4 Wood Kernel offer:
Wood R4 is a modified version of the Acekard Kernel to run on R4, M3 Simply, and R4i Gold (r4ids.cn.) It's basically praised for introducing all of the Acekard features so it basically had almost all the same features as akAIO. The only feature it didn't have was individual loader updates. Otherwise it had basically everything else.
I always suggest it because it's extremely light on the battery, the ROM performance is perfect, the RTS is stable and simple, it's easy and highly customizable, homebrew soft-reset, and so many other features. I personally think it's the best kernel next to akAIO and it's also why I always suggest the R4i Gold over other carts.

I'm using this and it works flawless on both my O3DS XL with 11.2 firmware and DSiXL on 1.4 firmware. No issues so far.

So my R4i Gold finally came in today, but it doesn't seem to be working for some reason. I downloaded the latest woodkernel V1.64 from http://www.r4ids.cn/r4i-download-e.htm and unzipped it to my SD card. I then added games to the card. My 3DS recognizes the flashcard as some Konami game but when I click to run it, it flashes a white screen and then turns black. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm on 11.3.
