Hi all!

Hope this finds you well. I just received a brand new (yep, it's new, no scratches, fingerprints, dust, etc) DS Lite I bought at ebay and found some funny dots on the touch screen.

I have no idea about what the could be and, as you can see in the picture attached, there's a few of them. I tried to clean the screen but they're definitely not superficial, the gameplay is not affected tho, I can't see them when the console is turned on.

Does any of you guys know what these dots are? Could it be a fungus of some sort?

Thanks!

Can you feel them when you rub your finger or stylus across the touch screen?

If the answer is no - - - i would guess someone replaced the touch screen and while doing it let dust get inside.

I would say that it looks like dust on the inside of the screen, but the dots are all uniformly shaped and sized which wouldn't be the case with regular dust. Still, it does look like dust.

Thanks all for your replies. I'm 100% sure it's not dust, actually they are like tiny tiny dents but that's not easy to capture in a picture.

As "The Real Jdbye" mentioned, they are uniformly shaped and sized....so, I still don't know what they are. I would have thought it is a used console but I'm incredibly careful with my stuff and this one is 120% pristine (except for the funny things on the touch screen, of course). it even has that brand new feeling, if you know what I mean. But, anyway, who uses a DS lite and causes uniform shaped dents on the touch screen?

Mystery...

i do think it's the screen itself..
they are all the same size and squarish...

the ds has some voltage regulators in the battery compartment, one thing you may do is to try to tune them to see if it does make it better.. (be really carefull and very slow, it can damage the screen for good if you go too much or to low)
ask someone with experience and knowledge about this...

Thanks for your suggestion, migles. But it is something superficial, I don't think that adjusting the voltage will help. They are like tiny dents on the touch screen but they are not visible when the DS is turned on.

If you are talking about the grid of points, it is normal and the way every DS lite looks like, it is the touchscreen technology used.

If you are talking about the points set at irregular places that look way more brighter in your photo and look like a field of stars when the Millennium Falcon is about to jump to light speed, then about that I don't know what the fuck it may be.

Yep, I'm talking about the Millenium Falcon things...will try to take another picture tomorrow, hopefully will be able to capture the "depth" of the dots...I know, it's very weird.

My old nds looks like this. And yes, everyone of them is dent. You almost can't see them without illuminating screen though.

Wow! At last someone in the same boat! Do you have any idea about what those things are? Did you buy that nds as a used unit or a brand new one?

It was brand new about 5 years ago and dents/dots were present (they never bothered me as they are virtually invisible when you play). You can see dimmer dots in upper and left parts of screen which are new ones from use. So i assume they are just dents in top layer of screen. Maybe from manufacturing process?

I opened a brand new polar white and it had these white spots under light and when turned to the side they are small dents just under the first layer of plastic. So you dont feel them with the stylus...so crap I figure I would look at my other two onyx systems and sure enough they both had them, one had use, but the other is brand new in the box. These were US retail and not refurbs. I checked my metallic rose models and no such dents or white spots under light. Might have been an issue with the plastics making up the touch panel on the early onyx and polar white models...it looks like crap and I'm pretty bummed atm.

Just checked my wife's Cobalt model and no dots.

I have a strange dot on my 3dsxl's touch screen that you can only see from certain angles, i always wondered what that was. Its not like yours, those are strange though.

I don't know what these dots are, but my DS lite touch screen (bought as 2nd hand) looks absolutely the same. I tried to take pictures on these strange dots but couldn't.

Thanks for posting this problem and made me relief on the situation.
