Do you have the required Bios-file in sdmc:/retroarch/cores/system ?
for example: scph1001.bin

If you use Pal-Games you need the Bios: scph5502.bin

I have the following bin-files in my system folder:

scph1001.bin
scph5500.bin
scph5502.bin
scph7502.bin

yes, Pal is europe, but if you have the the bios-files i mentioned in the last post, you could play everything. For playing games you need bin und cue files. Most games run with bin-files only, but some games run properly started with cue-files

Edit:
convering PSX Game Images to the PBP-format, increases the performance.

I will test version 1.5.0. Be patient........

By the way.....I use version 1.3.3. The latest working version is 1.3.6. pcsx was removed in version 1.4.0 and reactivated in the latest nighlies of version 1.4.1, but not working at all.
I´m currently installing version 1.5.0, hoping that pcsx will work properly again.........

the date is 17.08.2016. The cia-version is recommed.
you can download the 1.3.3 version here:

http://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.3.3/nintendo/

You can install it over the existing version, it will be overwritten.
Be shure you´ve deleted the existing retroarch folder. Start pcsx and close it again. Then you find a new created retroarch-folder on your sd, now copy the system-folder with the bios-files inside into retroarch/cores/. Start pcsx again and setup your configuration

Not every game is playable with usable framerates. I have tested almost all versions of pcsx and have finally returned to the stable version 1.3.3. This has in my opinion the best performance and the gamesaves load and store faster than in the newer versions. If you don´t want to miss sound and want get better framerates you can try to set frameskip from 1-3.

Edit: I'm assuming that you use an N3DS

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
