Hi guys.

I softmoded my Wii a year or more ago. And it was at the point where I had tested Xenoblade running off an SD card. It worked through the start screen and would get to the point of the first tutorial battle before freezing. I never knew if this was a problem with the rom or how I had done things. I didn't get a chance to test any other game before shelving the project.

Now I would like to get Wii and GC games running off a USB. Not the SD card.

I turned on my Wii to see what I had done to it and I am lost.
I have homebrew. Configurable USB Loader. Neogama. USB Loader GX. And Wii Flow on my channels screen. I believe they are just forwarders to what is on the SD. But I am so clueless to what WADS and Forwarders are.

I would prefer to just have the channels I need. The look of all those channels on the screen looks terrible. Do I need to use a Wad Manager to remove them. Or would just deleting there files off the SD card get rid of them.

So my question I guess, is how do I get the Wii and GC roms running. I put an .iso on an SD card and tried it in the different channels. The only one that let me look at my USB was Configurable USB Loader. But when I tried to use it, it said i need to open my WBFS partition. I removed the USB and formatted it to WBFS with WBFS manager. And tried to put the Smash Melee .iso onto it. But it wouldn't do anything.
I used Dios Mios Tool Box to convert the .iso to a different .iso. Which is what I saw some dude doing on Youtube. And that .iso wouldn't copy over either. Oh, right. I did just get Wii Back Up Manager. I read it does what WBFS Manager does but nicer. I haven't tried to move the .iso files over with this program yet. A side question. Does the USB have to be formatted to WBFS. I was hoping I could just use a FAT32 USB with a bunch of .iso's. Instead of all the converting business.

So I am lost in the process. Everything is a mess. And I don't know how to clean it up and just play my games.

I found Nintendont that I will try. Do I use it in conjunction with a USB loader. Or will it just do its own thing. This whole process is frustrating.

Thanks if anybody can help. Or at least tell me how to check what I have or haven't done.

Edit: Forgot to add my Wii doesn't go online.

Thank you @jeannotte.

I will check that syscheck out.

With the GC games and the Wii games, will I need to use different loaders.

Edit: Just checked that WBFS-Fat32 conversion link. Is it necessary to do it that way. Or is right clicking on the USB while it is in my PC, and saying format, then selecting the Fat32 option the same thing.

You can use the same loader. You'll need nintendont installed for GameCube playback though. I recommend USB Loader GX as I find it very easy to configure and every game I have tried works.
As far as reformatting the hdd you can use windows if you don't mind wiping the drive

Ok so I formatted to FAT32. Made a file called games. Put the Mios Dios Toolbox version of the Smash Melee .iso onto the USB. By simply copying and pasting it. I put Nintendont onto my SD card. Started up the Wii and there was no Nintendont on my Channels. Opened the Homebrew Channel and Nintendont was there. So I launched it, it found the USB and Smash worked fine.

I tried USB Loader GX and it Froze when it tried to initialize the USB. When the USB is in WBFS format this doesn't seem to happen. I tried Configurable USB Loader and it asked me to open the WBFS partition. There isnt one ofcourse. So I just pressed ok and it let me see GALE01 code over a generic looking Wii game box. I launched that and it just crashed everything.

So, I now need to somehow get the USB loaders to read a WBFS partition on the FAT32 formatted USB. So I can play the Wii stuff. Or I need Nintendont to read a FAT32 partion on a WBFS formatted Wii. So I can still play GC games. Or I need something else entirely full of magic and good juujuu.

I need to know how to emulate a memory card with Nintendont, if it can do that. And how can I get the other loader channels off the Wii, and then just use them through the Homebrew Channel.

Edit: Cool, I found how to do the memory card thing through Nintendont.

Don't use DMToolbox or any other utilities on GC rips. Make sure your game rips are valid and just use them as straight ISOs. There is a tool in my sig that will tell you if your GC rips are bad.

Don't use WBFS as a partition and don't use flash drives. Everything can be run from MBR/FAT32 primary :P

Flash drives are terrible for freezing, especially when writing, and the SD card on Wiis is very slow and provides poor performance.

You need to set USB Loader GX to show GC games and set the loader settings to Nintendon't

Ok so I found a post that says that all I need to do is have a wbfs folder on the root of the SD and have the Wii games in there. Will try that and see what goes down. That then leads me to ask what format will the wii games be in and if they are also just straight .iso files, then what is the point of WBManager. Would I only have needed that if the USB was in WBFS format. I will see if I can change the settings on USB Loader GX.

Haha. Sorry for all the posting. My PC is slow as hell and its loading up everything whenever it feels like. Cool so WBManager will convert the .iso to wbfs. And transfer it to the FAT32 drive so I don't have issues with files bigger than 4g. That's about the gist of what I can figure out.

Those settings are for ripping games from the disc, not loading them. USB Loader GX also doesn't support Wii games on SD, only Gamecube games.

WBM does split games automatically. The cIOS access them as if they were one file.

Thanks for all help guys. I have managed to get the GC games and the Wii games to work. USB Loader GX won't sync with Nintendont. It only has options for Dios Mios Lite and Devolution or something. Cant remember the name right now. When I launch USB Loader GX it refreshes back to the home screen and has all the games on the USB load up as channels. The Wii ones launch fine. Like I said though the GC ones don't. But its fine. I can just go through the Homebrew Channel and launch Nintendont and it loads the GC games fine. Won't bother messing around anymore since everything is working. It just looks so messy and ugly.

Thanks again. I really appreciate the help.
