Hardware How does the 3ds accomplish communication with other units.

There should be a dedicated module just for that, but does it use high frequency wifi (like the gamepad, or some other forms of wireless), or something more unique? And it's found on the original ds too.

Infrared is a bit outdated, is it not? So 3ds has a private wifi channel to communicate with other units locally?
yeah infrared is outdated, but it was still used in pokemon X&Y....i assume it was probably used in the newer games too, but idk tbh

and yeah not that i have seen too much regarding exact protocols etc, it just uses a form of adhoc connection for local play and streetpass etc

there was at one point someone trying to make a local wifi play tunneling app, but the way the 3ds shifts channels sporradically caused random dropouts
