I want to hard mod my o3ds xl with the latest firmware.. As far as I can tell I can.. I have a few questions though, what do I do to block updates, my wii u had dns tube, and another and Nintendo updates are blocked via my router for the wii u, do I just use the same dns, cause the blocking did not work on the 3ds.. After I get to 10.4 hat do I do next, for cfw, installing games, etc..

100% Positive I am. Holding START , Press power, Loads into the regular DS Interface. Holding SELECT loads Luma's Settings, so I know I'm doing that properly.
All I can suggest is that you redownload Hourglass9, maybe it corrupted on its way to your SD card?
https://github.com/d0k3/Hourglass9/releases/latest

Edit: also try using your Start button in games, and make sure it is functional.

Thats the same ZIP I've been using unfortunately, and Start is working as its the button to Save / Quit from Luma - So I'm up a creek without a paddle here. Is there a file I can move or edit that points the path of Start to something? Or is that what changing the start_ in front of Hourglass supposed to do? Because I really can't seem to grasp why it wouldn't function unless there's some critical component missing which tells it to use Start as a trigger.

Why you say "zip" - you are actually extracting the bin file from it, not just renaming the zip to bin, right????
And yes, it's simply the file name that's used the determine the button to load it with (bravo @Aurora Wright for this ingenious idea making it so incredibly simple for everybody to use. No config files, no hex editing, nothing hard)

Edit: and yes, @rikumax25!'s idea will work too. It just means your console will autoboot into Hourglass9 (then you'll have to put the previous arm9loaderhax.bin back when finished to boot to Luma/Home Menu).

All that did was cause constant black screens which lead to nowhere after 1 Minute+ of waiting.

Yes, I'm extracting the files from the Zips and 7z archives, and placing them in the directories as listed.
Fact that I can get Luma to load and nothing else, is that indicative that i was doing something right, maybe something about my NAND Is messed up? Because I can get into Luma fine and not hourglass/arm9loaderhax -
Would this be a "start from the top" moment - And if so, what would be the best way of restoring this to a point I can start all over from the start of a guide?

My god, you're making the guide a bit hard yet confusing to use. I suggest that you start over and follow the guide step by step properly, @klideklown . It is that simple to set up A9LH and Luma CFW. Skip the EmuNAND part completely.

Yeah, black screen. My top screen has been distorted though, so I'm unsure if that has anything to do with anything? Maybe there's something on it that I just can't see? ( Although Luma loads just fine into the settings screen, the default NDS stuff is stretched off the screen )

Yeah try adding "_si" to it, so you have "arm9loaderhax_si.bin" on your root. Then have start_hourglass9.bin in the payloads folder. That's the last thing I can think of (except remove any cartridge from the cartridge slot as well).

Perfect, Thank you. I'm now in Hourglass9 v1.35 and I'm able to continue with the guide.

Well thanks and props to both of you.
One last question, when I change the arm9loaderhax file back to the original one, should I put _si at the end of it like I did with the other one?
No, the "si" is for those payloads that dont initialize the screen (stands for screen init). That's why you were getting black screen, the app was running but the screen wasnt initialized

Hi there,

i dont know how to update my old Luma 6.3.1 to 6.6. Do i only need to copy the files from "Luma3DSv6.6/hax/3ds/Luma3DS" to the Luma3DS folder on my SDCard? I always boot direct into emunand 11.1.0-34 and want to update this emunand to the actual nintendo Firmware. How can i proof which Luma Version now runs on my N3DSXL?
Is it safe to use freeshop v2.1.3 and CIAngel v0.80 on the newest firmware? There are no updates for this very nice programms :-)

Thx in advance guys, great forum here!

Assuming you followed pailect's guide: just copy the arm9loaderhax.bin to the root of your sd card and replace the old one.

Hello everyone,
Always lurked around the gbatemp forum, waiting for the ability to finally flash CFW on my 3DS and finally I got it all up and running. Today, I was transferring some files to the 3DS SD card and my card reader cut-out mid transfer and unfortunately must have corrupted some file as I couldn't access it again through Windows without formatting, I tried some freeware to salvage the files but had no luck. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to the 3DS CFW, but I assume that I've flashed some stuff onto the console itself and was wondering if it was possible to just get the files and folders from somewhere and replace them onto the SD card? I don't know which of the files that were left after I followed the popular guide were important, however, and I didn't make a backup >.> because I'm an idiot. I would love any help, I'm a bit scared to just try running through the entire guide again.
