Is there a way to change the gender of my avatar without starting up a new save?

Pkhex might work. I know I have seen the option though I have never tried it. As always make sure to backup your save before doing anything.

Maybe try looking for it at the profile card. But other than that you could try pkHex.

i tried but the game crashed for me because even if you changed your character gender, your rival's gender wont change and somehow it crashes
i dont know why it should crash but it did for me

Where does it crash? When you boot it up or meet your rival?

the gender option is grayed out for me and right next to is an option that has y selected, I assume that is determining which game said character is from but i am unsure. any idea how to make it available?
