Installed, first dump worked. Now I'm just bummed I didn't hold out for a bigger SD card since I can't install most games anyway. Oh well, at least I have DLC and a few VC titles

Is there a way there a way to delete a .tik file on redNAND? I installed an incomplete one and it does not seem to want to let me use a full content one.

I was excited with the announce at first but due to the lack of a proper release, I'm holding my horses.

Can't afford another WiiU if something goes wrong.

It's great for the scene, not necessarily for the end user (yet)

However, we will most likely see the benefit when SALT releases in the form of readily-available homebrew at launch

PSA: Dont bother with redNAND. Im not sure why this isn't mentioned in any tutorials but its only useful for eshop stuff and DLC so if you don't plan on pirating VC(which really why would you need to), dont bother its not worth the time. Brazilian method is all you need right now

You assume that everyone here only wants IOSU for piracy purposes

I said it has little to no purpose "right now". These other supposed uses for redNAND simply don't exist at the moment and probably won't for a little while.

Im just saying no need to jump on it so quickly and waste half an SD cards space. I sacrificed my 3DS SD card for it and was understandably upset when I found out I dont need redNAND at all for what I wanted to do.

Read again. He literally said, quote: "if you don't plan on pirating VC don't bother".

I'm personally using it to pirate DLC because I don't believe in paying for shit that should have been released at launch unless it's a full blown expansion pack.
*cough Mario Kart 8 cough Sm4sh cough*

I'd argue that RedNAND is a very important advancement in the scene and will be huge for people that want to mess around with their system later on down the line, but I agree that in its current form it's kind of useless

I would agree with this. I'm hoping we can see some kind of pre-system menu hack (in the future) similar to A9LH, but the Brazillion method along with the Homebrew Launcher are all you really need right now. I think if the Brazillion method wasn't discovered, RedNAND would be MUCH more beneficial, because of the sign patch.

Edit: Once we have tools built into RedNAND like a save manager, cheats, etc. it will definitely be worth making the switch.

With everything that's going on these days (fw.img, coldboothax, brazilian exploit, redNAND) I've got only one question:
Will it ever be possible in the near future to install titles to sysNAND or redNAND without the need to format the USB device to the Wii U filesystem (which sucks)?
I mean I bought a big drive to use it for Wii U and Wii/GC games.
But right now we still have to decide between
  • Wii U games on SD (redNAND or Loadiine) or sysNAND and Wii/GC games on USB
  • Wii U games on USB (sysNand or redNAND) and Wii/GC games on SD
Edit 1: Only and best solution for biggest compatibility would be if a complete redNAND with dynamic space could be installed to USB with FAT32 like it's done for Wii (where countless WiiWare and VC titles can be installed to).
Edit 2: Another solution (that would satisfy me at least) would be if Wii and GC games could be launched through Wii U mode (by injecting them to Wii VC games like Mario Galaxy which isn't possible at the moment as far as I know) so the drive could be formatted to that shitty Wii U filesystem. :P

Does anyone know why redNAND requires an SD card at least twice the size of your sysnand? Or can you link me to an explanation why? And for bonus points, is that something that might be improved upon in the future?

Ignoring the WiiU itself for a moment, A full chip dump, without compression, plus the programs that load it must be larger than the chip itself. If the chip and the card are the same size, the dump plus anything (even the card's overhead) can't fit. Since cards come in powers of two, you end up 'needing' a card that's nominally twice the size of the system.

As with most data, there are compression opportunities, but when you're trying to make progress as quickly as possible, adding a compression feature is a low priority.
