Well this will probably go nowhere but at this point I'm desperate and desperate people do stupid things. So here we go!

The problem: GBA games on 3DS only use the top screen. There is no way officially to switch between the screens. I asked smea if he thinks it's possible to make GBA.cias use the bottom screen, and he thinks it's probably possible with an AGB_FIRM patch.

The task: Provide a way for end users to play GBA.cias on the bottom screen. For example a windows PC tool to patch GBA.cia's, an xdelta patch for the various AGB_FIRMs or simple hex-editor instructions. Please post your method either in this thread or if you prefer via PM.

The prize: A free amazon gift card worth $50/€45/£38.

Please no spam/hate posts, my feelings are hurt very easily :tpi:

Seems like it may be hard. The romFS has nothing in it, leaving whoever to have to mess with exeFS to accomplish their goal.

Perhaps you could run them through an emulator on the bottom screen?

Wouldn't you simply need to make the system mirror the top screen's image to the bottom screen, without actually displaying the game on the top screen?

Not necessarily. Stuff is displayed at a 400x240 resolution on the top screen, meaning mirroring to the smaller touch screen may cut off part of it.

AGB_FIRM scales the image to fit the top screen. It would not be much trouble to tell it to scale to a different resolution. Have you started a GBA game while holding start/select? It goes into 1:1 mode where it doesn't scale it at all. In that instance it would definitely fit on the bottom screen with no resizing. ;)

Wouldn't something like that mess with the Home button stuff?

Probably not. The dialog would probably just be overlayed on top or the screen blacked out with the dialog being displayed. The top screen is dimmed when you hit the home button while in GBA mode. NTR/TWL mode uses both screens and it has no issue disabling the bottom screen output to display the home menu message. The only difference is that unlike NTR/TWL mode, in GBA mode, game is not paused when this dialog comes up because the GBA didn't have a suspend/sleep mode.

However, you could avoid that by making the game display in their native resolution by default.

Dayum, normally I wouldn't bother with any technical stuff like this, but you're offering £38 :/

Hahah, I know next to nothing so I wouldn't be any help, but good luck with your request lmao

For all those saying to "use homebrew and press y" or to "use a ds with a gba flashcart", the goal is to provide a way for end-users to play GBA CIAS on the bottom screen! If you are just coming on the thread to just say useless stuff like "homebrew press y" or "use ds with flashcart" then your should just leave.
