Hacking Jailbreaking PS3 etc.

I used to do a lot of stuff with CFW on the PSP, but I got a PS3 at the end of last year and the main thing I want to do is play burned PS1 games and maybe homebrew on the PS3. But apparently I have to jailbreak it or something to do so.
I'm running firmware 4.75 and a lot of people say you can't jailbreak/cfw past 3.5 or something on this site.

Google searches however seem to say otherwise, the simplest one I found yet is here, I don't know if I trust this.

I'm a complete noob to PS3 modding but I'm hoping it's just as simple as the PSP was.

Unless you have a e3 flasher you can't install cfw on any Ps3 above 3.55... and that link the website you went too that .pup file is way to small to be a cfw

I don't know which bloody idiot wrote that but no, it's not as simple as that.

You'll have to get an E3 flasher after you've checked if your PS3 is downgradable.
Then follow this tutorial.

Yeah thought so, the other thing I heard was something called ReBug. But I guess I'm fucked then as this PS3 isn't that old.

Yea rebug is a type of cfw not a downgrader that pup on that site is prolly a virus

Apparently "ReBug" works on 4.80.1 or something, but I don't know what it even does.

Rebug is updated to FW 4.80.
You're still required to downgrade to 3.55 via an E3 flasher first.

If your PS3 is a model that can't be downgraded past 3.56 then yes.
Only option is to get an early Slim then (or late phatty)

Correct. Just a heads up, apparently there's been a problem with sites claiming to have a solution to jailbreaking a PS3 beyond 3.55 simply as a method of distributing malware. I haven't experienced it myself, but others have reported that kind of thing, so don't trust anything saying they have a workaround.

Mines a CECH-2502A, I got it 2nd hand. The chart has ".."'s in between them so I'm a bit confused whether it can be downgraded or not.

Then it's downgradable.
Only thing you need is an E3 flasher and follow the tutorial I linked.
It should be quite easy.

Installation of the E3 flasher can be a bit tricky at times but secure it with duct tape.
That will ensure you've got proper NOR backups.

if you do get an E3 - best advice is to use a small C clamp on the clip once its attached.

When I first attempted it I did everything right, but couldn't get good dumps no matter what. Finally found a good tutorial on youtube and worked next try with no problem at all. I got my E3 for like $55-ish, I think it was from aliexpress. Totally worth the cost.
