I've got two O3DS setup with Luma and a9lh, one was a 4.5 that I'd been using gateway on, just made the switch. The second was 10.7 (really glad i blocked nus systems on the home firewall) spent most of the weekend getting them both on 11.1, luma and a9lh, and everything was a huge success kids love playing online again and i don't have to worry about someone accidentally updating the damn thing, it's great.
Now my wife really wants to play the one exclusive game to the N3DS and of course I want to hack it just because!

From the research time I've spent on this it looks like my odds of getting an 11.0 stock firmware are high, but since i can do DSIware downgrade https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/DSiWare-Downgrade
does it make any difference usage wise if i get a 10.7 or an 11 stock firmware? or is it a wash in the end?
From the guide it sounds like it won't make any difference at all.

Also since I'm going from O3DS to N3DS it sounds like the nnid on the source O3DS will essentially be broken after the transfer, but according to this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/manually-unlinking-a-nnid-without-nintendo.438361/ once I'm done with the N3DS downgrade I can format the N3DS and open it up to link a fresh nnid, then unlink on the O3DS (After restoring the pre-transfer nand of course) and then relink it. I don't have anything in the nnid to speak of anyway, so i could care less which nnid ends up where but i don't like the idea of crippling my O3DS for the sake of the N3DS.

That method isnt advised- you need to buy a 5-10$ game in the process, and after it u need to wait a week to transfer nnid back... except for this everything is the same as other methods
Edit- u cant transfer nnid back from n3ds to o3ds. But u can backup saves and then hack the games u bought, pirate them and then inject saves back

You won't destroy your O3DS. You're NNID will just be stuck on the N3DS since that's a one way trip. If you're not worried about you're NNID, there's no difference. It will still be usable.

Back everything up. Everything.
Unlink NNID from o3DS
Create new NNID on o3DS, purchase exploit game
Perform DSiWare downgrade
Leave NNID on n3DS
Put old NNID back on o3DS

This is how I plan to do it when I receive my n3DS sometime next week. I might still have to wait a week to get my NNID back on my o3DS, but thats fine.

Can someone confirm if this is possible? Sounds great on paper

There's no reason to make it that complicated, you can buy a game and system transfer without making an NNID. So just backup, format, transfer, and restore. That's how the guide officially does it, also.
I chose to do it this way because when I move to the n3DS, I don't plan on putting my original NNID on the 3DS. This allows me to make the NNID and transfer it to the n3DS so that both are ready to play online and such.

That sounds perfect except I already have funds I'll never use on my existing nnid.
What about this instead:
Source O3DS: Unlink NNID, perform nand backup.
Re-link NNID (that has funds), buy game, system transfer to N3DS. Leave NNID on N3DS.
Then restore nand backup and create new NNID. Would that work?

I'm not going to stress about getting a <11.0 then, as a courtesy to those that can't downgrade from 11.0, I don't want to pick clean the limited supply of <11.0 locally. The NNID was mainly used on my wiiu, I think I have a single game purchased on the 3ds and it was only to spend funds, now i have ~$13 balance that is going to waste, so no worries about having to buy a single game.

It should, except your NNID will still be tied to the source even though it's formatted. This is why I wanted to unlink my original NNID and create a new one. At that point my new 3DS will have my new NNID and my old NNID will not be linked to any console so a week later, I can relink it to my o3DS.
