bought a 3ds from Walmart installed a9lh but want to return it and get a different model. How can I completely remove a9lh and leave it at the original factory settings so they can't detect that it was modded when I take it back?

Just restore sysnand with Decrypt9. Use the option "SYSNAND Restore (forced). Then format the 3ds to restore it to factory settings.

If Walmart sends it back to Nintendo is there a way for them to see if the system was ever modded or do you think they won't even go that far and just re package or sell it as a refurb?

I'm pretty sure the only way Nintendo would know if you did it is if still have files on the sd card, or if you still have a9lh on the system.

Yep, if you restore to before you installed any cia, there'll be no incriminating traces (opening cubic ninja or the browser is not proof of anything)

great thanks. Also off topic but with a 2DS at version 6.0 what's the best way to install a9lh? What part of the new guide do I start on?

When you say format does that just mean system update? I did the sysNAND restore forced but I'm still able to boot the payloads at startup meaning that a9lh is still installed

You have to use a pre-A9LH sysNAND backup (if you made one before the 2.1 CTR-Transfer)
Otherwise, you'll always restoring A9LH.

Other way is to uninstall A9LH with the safeA9LHinstaller after you system format.

After that just Format your SD.
