It wasn"t possible to use Recovery Mode properly in 2.1.0 in New 3DS or 2DS. I"m not sure if this really change much about it. But if the problem is before even get to 2.1.0 or without a backup on highers version it should be possible to recover wit the CTRNAND transfer.

if i have stuff on emunand i want to keep, but also gba games on sysnand, if i want to keep the emunand stuff, i'll lose my gba progress and have to install those again, right?
Agbsave9 (https://gbatemp.net/threads/pre-release-agbsave9-tool-to-extract-agb_firm-saves.410684/) can backup easily gba saves, although it is hard to restore them (you need to uninstall the gba title, create a special cia, install it, run it, uninstall it, reinstall the gba title).

I need some help here
I am following the new guide to downgrade my frankenfirmware (native firm 10.4) to 9.2 but i always get the "an error has occurred" after the titleID check is done.

I tried things like rewriting my native firm nand, system formats but both methods either made me stuck at svchax or give me the "an error has occurred".
Been trying over 20 times now.

Appreciate some advise :)

*edit*
I tried to run zoogie's version checker but it didnt' respond after i pressed check titles.
Is it because it cannot check version above 9.2?

is restoring health and safety app really necessary?
and if i dont know if i patched agb or the flashcard whitelist in emunand, is there any way to check that? since it supposedly clashes with luma sometimes?

it's recommended to do that, since you can't easily update FBI when it is injected. another way to restore is to delete it from NAND and update.

I did the old guide with freakyhax, but now I have a friends 1.0.0-0e 3ds
and the guide only lists cubicninja or DS cart MSET as alternatives.

Is it true that upgrading to 9.X via game cart is impossible because
it will not give the -0E version 3ds the software for homebrew hacks?

Looking at smealum the otherbin only targets -7E as lowest
but it said somewhere that the last digit will not be updated by a game update...

Bumping this query, I got a little interested with this too, can't we just update the 1.0.0 3ds'es to 9.2.0 then use an alternative entrypoint to enter homebrew launcher?

So, will otherapp payload for 9.7.0-7E work on a 3ds updated by game from 1.0.0-0e to 9.7.0-0E, there was a hint somewhere.

Else, updating with a game to > 9.9, in my case 10.3 will include a dummy browser - does that mean that the last digit will be bumped to a version with a working payload?

I wish the freakyhax exploit just got extra support for the fw included on that game (4.1) for convenience.

So if i understand the new downgrade firmware method for latest firmware N3DS mentioned in there, it means hardmod is not necessary but you need a second system not on latest firmware instead?
The only thing is that i would have to make a new nnid unless i buy another n3ds on an older firmware version and transfer to it first then retransfer to current one a week later . . .

I did it with the new guide. No more then an hour / or one and a half with an additional backup of sysNand.
(with downgrade from 10.3 this time..so maybe 2 hours in sum)
That's so crazy..so smooth and much less complex then before (I did 5 systems now with the old guide and this one with the new guide..but so awesome and easy this time).

Thanks to all :)

assume one had like 60gb of files on the sd. say one didn't mind about losing that one gb of emunand partition space, could i just ignore the whole backup and later restore part during the move rednand portion of the guide (but still deleting that one folder in /Nintendo 3ds/)...?

https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Move-RedNAND
  1. Backup every file on your SD card to a folder on your computer, all files will be deleted in the next step
  2. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
  3. Press (Start) to reboot while holding (Y) to open EmuNAND9
  4. Go to "SD Format Options", then "Format SD..."
  5. Select the "Format SD (No EmuNAND)" option
  6. Press Select on the main menu to eject your SD card
  7. Put your SD card in your computer, then copy all your files back into it
  8. Navigate to /Nintendo 3DS/(32 Character ID)/(32 Character ID)/extdata/ on your SD card
    • EUR Region: Delete 00000098
    • JPN Region: Delete 00000082
    • USA Region: Delete 0000008f
  9. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS and boot
i got a slow pc, only about 50gb of space and moving things back and forth would take about an hour each direction (more if i used teracopy)

or would the emunand partition interfere lateron?

nice guide but talk about freaking me out. I was right in the middle of Step 4 on the old guide, looked forward to read up on Step 5 and the site changed. Took a few minutes to find the the post about the old guide still being there. Defiantly not a fun first time doing this.

I trust the guide but I would like to ask clarification on the NANDmin.bin backup file.

  • Part 2 step #5 says to backup the SysNand to NANDmin.bin - is this the original firmware backup? If I am starting with 9.2 then this is a 9.2 backup?
  • Part 3 Section 1 step #5 - I understand this is the one from above
  • Part 3 Section 2 step #4 - Is this installing A9LH to the NANDmin.bin or the SysNand on the 3DS on 2.1 right now?
  • Part 3 Section 4 step #4 - ???
So the last part in bullet #4 is the reason I am asking what this NANDmin.bin is doing and how is it being touched. If this is untouched throughout the part 2 and 3 then wouldn't restoring this have no A9LH in it?

So i have used this newly updated guide, and i love it.
I had a menuhax with emunand before, and this process took like a hour for me.
What needs time is backuping your sysnand and emunand, and emunand took like 30 mins to backup.
I trust the guide but I would like to ask clarification on the NANDmin.bin backup file.

Yes, that NANDmin.bin is the backup of you sysnand. It is used for restoring at the last part of part 3 if you don't have an emunand.
