I've been thinking of getting a set of Gateway cards but I'm not 100% sure of how they work. I understand the exploit and everything and needing SysNAND 9.2 without A9LH, and I do have EmuNAND (I also like to have a flashcard around, currently have a Sky3DS+). If there is a FAQ

My first question is can you download game updates with the multi launcher? (I'm assuming no, but I'd like to get confirmation)

Second question is does Gateway let you use it in EmuNAND without launching an exploit within EmuNAND?

Tried searching, so if these have been answered I couldn't find the answer with the search engine.

You don't need a Gateway. Period. Even moreso because of your Sky3DS+.
Use https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki to mod your 3DS for free, and use that. You can continue to use your Sky3DS+ after that, and because your 3DS will be region free, instantly booting CFW, you can even play out of region games with it now.

At the end of that guide, your 3DS will boot into CFW so seamlessly it will look like a stock 3DS.

You forgot the part where you answered absolutely none of OP's questions.

Yeah, and you forgot the part where what you just said added absolutely nothing to the thread. At least I directed the guy in a direction where he'd save some money and end up with a desirable setup for his 3DS, what did your snarky comment add to this thread other then taking the piss out of me, huh?

You want me to answer his questions? Alright fine. But If someone asks you why Adolf Hitler was a good man, I expect nothing less than the most accurate positive things to be listed, Mr. Smartypants.

1. No, I don't believe you can, I presume you were referring to the Gateway Launcher Menu?
2. Uhm, you don't really run an exploit from within EmuNAND, I'm not sure your question really made much sense, care to elaborate a bit? Maybe give details about your setup, might help me answer this farther.

Oh and by the way, you can use Gateway on a 3DS running 9.2 with the open source A9LH, fairly easily, actually. Gateway has their own binary for that. Even if you do get a Gateway, I seriously do not recommend using the closed-source Gateway version of A9LH, as it's a very dangerous to set up compared to the Open Source version, which I've provided a link to how you can set up in my previous post.

I thought Gateway had a home menu thing that showed all the roms on the card? Not sure if it counts as the launcher since I consider that the menu with the dragon and NAND options. This is what I understood from screenshots and videos. I was wondering if it works in EmuNAND without any additional launching like if I could use it with my EmuNAND that I use with ReiNAND and AuReiNAND (AuRei is for Cosmo3DS eShop). I didn't really get into the 3DS modding scene until after CFW was a popular thing.

No, the select menu is only available in gateway mode (in which you can't play GBA games).

Ah okay, that's what you meant. You can't download updates with the multi-launcher, but you can download them from the eShop and use them with roms. Basically it's just a UI for picking the rom you want to load. The only other reason to get a Gateway is to use it's Gateshark Cheats.

And to reiterate on what @Quantumcat was saying, the multi-launcher is only available in Gateway mode. And it's kind of a crutch that breaks updates constantly for them. That and their obfuscated messy code. Gateway mode has other crutches like not being able to run DSiware or GBA games and it's missing sigpatches in some places, causing stupid issues.

You should know that your CFWs are out of date, and that there's no reason to use ReiNAND and AuReiNAND at the same time really. Additionally, AuReiNAND was rebranded when it updated a while ago to Luma 3DS, and you really should be running that more recent version. Luma3DS also has homebrews you can install to the home menu that update your CFW with the click of a button.

Gateway is basically a fancy CFW with enhanced Flash Cart functionality, though most of us do not support them anymore because they are an incredibly shady business. They heavily obfuscate their code, and it even has hardcore brick code in it, where if it detects if you are using any kind of clone of the Gateway, it bricks you so hard you get a Bootrom error. More recently they ripped off open source code and exploits and removed all the safety precautions involved in setting up Arm9LoaderHax and caused quite a stir in this community, and it's not the first time, and probably not the last time they pull stuff like this.

Typically the most ideal setup for a 3DS is Arm9LoaderHax booting into Luma3DS CFW SysNAND and having all games installed to the SD card from CIAs or though things like freeShop. The reason everyone is switching to Arm9LoaderHax is because it runs before the 3DS's OS does instantly without failure, even on reboots into DS or GBA mode. So it works as brick protection and nullifies the need for an EmuNAND, plus, Luma3DS prevents Nintendo's Updater from removing Arm9LoaderHax from the system, meaning it is essentially a perfect, self sustaining entrypoint and CFW, never have to worry about your SysNAND being updated, because you're free to update as you please, and still have all the benefits that Luma3DS provides.

The guide I linked above provides rather simple instructions toward the end on transferring your EmuNAND to your SysNAND and removing the EmuNAND from your SD card, so you won't lose anything, and you'll gain some space back on your SD Card.

Ideally, you'd simply get a large SD card for your 3DS itself, and then install all your games to the Home Menu directly, instead of having to fumble around with buttons on a cart or clunky rom selection menus, or worry about headers or any of that. Plus it frees up your 3DS's Card Slot to use an old DS flashcart if you have one, so you can play DS games too.

Last I heard Luma removed support for Cosmo3DS and that's why I started using AuReiNAND again. I mainly use AuRei for updating titles and getting the seed from the eShop if something isn't cryptofixed. I need to use it because I have a region changed N3DS. ReiNAND I have for actually playing games since it has a better boot rate.

I probably won't get one then. I already knew about the bricks and updates breaking the multi launcher, but the missing sig patches sounds like it'll be annoying.

Seems like you have a messy setup for your 3DS, I don't know much about region changing but I do know that if you were going to set up A9LH you'd need to create a fresh EmuNAND that is the proper region for your system. I don't think you can copy a Region Changed EmuNAND to SysNAND as the guide instructs, but like I said, I'm not really entirely sure how all that works.

What I do know is what you said doesn't make much sense. Cosmo3DS is just a stripped down version of the old AuReiNAND. (Which is like, rediculous, as AuReiNAND and Luma3DS are already minimal as hell, so why you'd be using that is beyond me) Luma 3DS didn't "Remove Support" for anything. It uses a different folder, on the SD card, name wise, and some features have changed, but they don't "support" each other, they're totally independent CFWs.

So if you already have a functional setup, why are you looking into a Gateway? I can guarantee it won't make things any easier.

The actual Cosmo3DS patch has to be implemented into a CFW. With ReiNAND it has to be added into the loader, which I haven't heard of actually working. Aurora Wright said the functionality for that patch was removed when it was changed to Luma3DS (I asked this a while ago in the Luma thread). The Cosmo CFW doesn't have sig patches, so that will only play games from a Sky3DS(+) and legit cias. I was interested in getting a Gateway for easier use of ROM dumps, since those seem to be a lot easier to find, especially with obscure titles.

But why would you use Cosmo3DS? There's no reason at all to be using that- From the sound of it, there is absolutely no reason to be using Cosmo, none at all. It does nothing special besides remove functionality from what was previously AuReiNAND.

It sounds like you have to jump through 20 hoops every time you do anything. That's not exactly intuitive or impressive. Complicated =/= Better

Cosmo has to be used in order for a region changed console to connect to the eShop. The secureinfo files have to be changed to one from your emuNAND's region (in my case US) since the console's serial and legacy eShop account are from the first region (in my case JPN). Without using the patch the emuNAND's region eShop is incompatible with the legacy account.

Hate to say, but I think your first mistake was trying to turn a Japanese n3DS into an American one. Your whole setup is a convoluted mess because of this region change business. Honestly, I have no advice for you, sounds like you dug yourself a deep hole. But good luck with that.

Gateway used to rule until 3ds keys got leaked online

Just stick to a9lh. Sky and Gateway are pretty much useless now.

If you're in an o3DS, Luma can use eShop on a region-changed console perfectly fine. No need for Cosmo. Read the region-changing guide in Plailect's guide.

You know there are programs that convert Rom dumps into CIAs perfectly fine
Yeah, like uncart. Plus, you don't need to actually own a Gateway cart to use the rom dumping functionality...

Using a non-XL N3DS. From what I can tell from the changelogs Cosmo functionality hasn't returned in Luma3DS yet. I knoe you don't need to own Gateway to use the ROM dumping features.

You said you wanted to get a Gateway for easier dumping of roms though. Just wanted to let you know that owning or not owning a Gateway cart makes zero difference to how easy it is to dump roms.

Using ROM dumps like 3DS files, and I probably won't end up getting one now. Does Uncart keep headers?

No, Uncart does not keep your headers. Use Gateway to dump your games if you need the header as well. Or use a Powersaves to extract them.

Also, I doubt Luma3DS would reintroduce that. With region//language emulation, there is basically no need for region-changing. Only reason I region-changed my o3DS is because region-changing on o3DS works, so I did it for fun. Your basically stuck with your current setup as is.
