Sony Confirms PS4.5 Existence but no-show for E3

playstation-45_0.jpg

In an interview with Financial Times, Sony executive Andrew House has confirmed the existence of a new, more powerful version of their home console, codenamed "Neo,". He added that it is “intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4" and that “we will be selling both through the life cycle.” However it will not be unveiled at this year's E3.

Somehow I got no hyper for this E3.

First Nintendo said they don't joy it and no NX news, now this. What else do we expect for this E3?

There will still be some solid games. I really don't know why Nintendo kept this Zelda's development so secretive, because I've never seen them do that in the past. Hopefully this means it's a really solid title that will carry Nintendo through E3. *Crosses Fingers*

All I want this console to offer is the same games but in 60FPS rather than 30.
I don't care about 4K, PSVR and all that crap. Just give me a smoother picture.
Then you should have bought a Gaming PC. I'm sure the Ps4 can play 2012 games at 1080p60fps. The Ps4 is using a GPU from 2012 anyways. Heck the Ps4 is only $400 and your probably going to have to pay at least $800 on a PC that will play 2016 games at 1080p60fps. It's just expectations vrs reality now.

Would suck for the people who bought a PS4 during Christmas 6 months ago. This is like the 3DS/New 3DS scenario again. Will developers make a game that takes advantage of the boost in power from the new PS4 and risk alienating the millions of people who still own the old PS4?

Either way, I'm interested in seeing how low a second hand PS4 can sell for now so I can buy one.

I did but I still can't play Bloodborne at 60 FPS on it. Although I have no idea why that is.

I can seriously imagine you putting your Bloodborne disk into your PC...

Gamers these days have the most stupid expectations now a days....

All my expectations are coming true. They're confirming it this year, they'll unveil it next year and release it the year after. This will probably be followed by a two-year transition period, giving the original PS4 an 8-year lifespan. Totally acceptable.

Funny how some current PS4 owners think "We shouldn't have to be buying a new PS4 already!", but are also upset that they aren't showing it at E3. I'm fine with it. The longer they wait to release it - the longer I can wait to buy it. ;)

So first no kingdom hearts 3, no NX from Nintendo, nothing AT ALL from nintendo other than some Zelda gameplay, and now no PS4.5? This is getting extremely disappointing.
Only zelda gameplay on Day 1. The news reporters assumed this was for day two and three, but Nintendo has stated other games will be played on day two and three.

The rest though, agreed, depressing.

So if i get right this is gonna be a "slim" version for PS4 right?

That's what it looks like to me as well. Better VR support, and one can hope better Bluray read speeds, support for quad-layer blurays, and maybe some HDMI upgrade.

Thats because Nintendo originally announced they'll be doing only Zelda streams. They said that they'll show more only recently but still it's just livestreaming games, there won't be any nintendo Direct showcasing new/exiting games and what not.

Incorrect. The original PS4 is getting a slim redesign and the Neo is a whole different beast, so it's two separate SKU's, at least as far as I know.
So Neo is the codename for ps5, and a ps4 slim is still in the works? Still works out to be the same for me.

You should reread the press release. It's understandable that reporters mistook their release as that's all they would have, but they didn't explicitly say or infer that. I think since folks just assumed they would lay out their entire plans, that this must have been their entire plans. But after re-reading the press release, it would seem it was just poor wording on their part.

And yeah, the recent press release clarified that there would be more live-streaming games on day two and three. Who knows if that'll be any fun. I never liked the tree-house stuff. It feels too much like fake smiles

I'd say glad I waited, but is this going to be the new norm, pay an additional $300 mid-gen to get the better version?
If so I (and all of us, really.) may be better off going PC only.

It's not the PS5, it's the same machine, just with faster cores and more CU's. The end game here is to drop the hardware out of the equation entirely and create a gaming ecosystem where you pick up a "PlayStation" piece of hardware and just play the games, akin to Android and iOS, something you can occasionally swap for the "newer model" without a significant expense. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a "PlayStation" PC and Mobile clients within 10 years. Making console hardware is not profitable, it's the games and the brand that make money.
