Hm. I think I encountered a weird bug today.
Terraria has big save files, so it saves as ExtData. When I tried backing up my save file, the progress bar froze while backing up a file called scratch.dat. I had to switch off the system.
As a test, I then deleted Terraria's extra data from 3DS system settings, went back to the game to confirm that my save data was gone, and then imported my (supposedly incomplete) save file back to the game with JKSM.
And what do you know, it worked fine. The essential files, like the player and world data seem to export just fine, it's just the scratch.dat file that messes up, and I have no idea what that file includes.
Is this a known bug? I'm using the 5/21/2016 build from GitHub.
If it happens again, hit B to make it stop trying. I've been trying to get it straightened out, but it hasn't been easy. The error FSFILE_Read returns is for a bad save data hash block. I've noticed that some titles can ignore it and continue like nothing is wrong. Others will cause it to completely freeze. The version I have for testing has the option to hold Y to try force it through. It's still hit or miss depending on what you're dumping from.

Eh, it's not a big deal really. I mostly wanted to know if that file has anything of value stored in it.
If not, I couldn't care less about it.

I hope you add this to the main post on the 1st page of this thread so people won't have to ask this anymore but someone figured out a way to use gateway 3ds card type 1 .sav saves.

zhdarkstar: You don't need to use SDF anymore. You just need to rename the .sav to 0004000002C23200.sav instead and you can export the save with JKSM.

From this thread.

@JK_ In multi savedata backup mode (by selecting various games), I make backups and this frozen in one saying "filelist.txt" I press B and makes regular backup but what happens?

PD: Screenshot in program isn't bad idea for report errors.

I used JKSV a couple times a few weeks back, worked fine for the first five games I was copying save files to from my physical carts, but then it suddenly stopped working, kept giving me error messages when I tried to write saves to games. I didn't think much of it, used a different homebrew to get it done, went about my day.

Now, however, as I was making a backup of my SD card to an external hard drive, I encountered a problem - the contents of the card wouldn't copy as a block. I copied each folder individually, no issues - until I got to the JKSV folder on the root, which displayed the aversion to copying I'd seen before.

So I delved into it. Most of the folders and files within were fine and copyable, but both "saves" and "extdata", when attempting to copy (or cut, or delete) just ignore the command - in cut's case, the folder will go faded as per usual to indicate it's targeted for cutting, but when a destination is set, it abruptly deselects and ignores the command.

I figure this is either a symptom of, or the culprit of, how manager wasn't working for me. Alone, I wouldn't mind a non-functional save manager, there are alternatives. What does worry me, however, is this:

MJEQUI9.png

The folders can't be opened. And, as stated previously, they can't be deleted.

Checking the save and extdata folders with lockhunter shows nothing; fileassassin can't get to the files themselves to attempt a nuking. There's also no delete option for the data within the JKSV program itself. I'm essentially stuck with a glitched folder on my root, can't remove the program to start from scratch, and am mildly-to-moderately annoyed. Does anyone know what is up/how to fix this, or at the very least how to scrub the damn thing from my card?

It probably has something to do with how the folder(s) are named, like how much characters or illegal characters used as such making them inaccessible/unreadable.

OR IM WRONG HAHA

What is the ExtData?

Certain games have extra data that (I think?) they save to the SD card - when using a game cart that does this, when first starting it up, it'll give a brief window saying something like "creating extra data on SD card". JKSV has the option to save that extra data from an inserted cartridge and then dump it back later, and creates an "Extdata" folder in the same location as the save backup folder in which to put the backed up extdata. I did this for a few of the games too, same deal as the save backup folder - worked for a while, suddenly stopped with no cause I could isolate.

I also didn't muck around with the names on anything; it's all the automatically set filenames given by the program. It's rather odd; theatrhythm curtain call, seen above, allowed me to back up its save data from the cart and inject it into my CIA copy without an issue, but later when the issue cropped up and I was testing what was and what wasn't working, I was given an error when trying to restore that very same backup a second time. Just stopped letting me do anything past writing the saves into backup files, all of which resulted in un-deletable folders. I'd format the SD to get rid of it, but I've got ARM-9 and, while I've got a hardmod, really do not want to go through the headache of getting everything set up again.

That's odd. It looks like there is a line break after the number 23. You can try running chkdsk /F [drive letter] and seeing if that helps. It just saved me from a corrupted decrypt9 folder. Can you rename it?

Also, off topic, but does anyone know a reliable place to buy a replacement top screen lens for a n3DSXL? Mine has a nasty scratch that annoys the hell outta me when I'm playing.

Not sure I follow you here but isn't the headache inducing part of a9lh installed in the firmware and the SD card only has the easily replaceable payloads and folders?

Yup. Just another case of people not understanding what they are using/doing.
A9lh makes it easier to swap sd cards than a system with menuhax

Hey there, i am very new in the Homebrew,Exploit etc. Section.

I installed Succesfully the Homebrew on my 3Ds and i used this SaveManger and it works with every .cia and Cartridge game :D.

A small Question: Do i need to Export ExtDatas if i want to Export Saves ? What are ExtDatas ? sorry for dumb Question, like i sayd i am new in this Section :o.

ps.Its a cool Feature with the SaveManager and the Saves cuz: Its like i can have unlimited Profiles on my 3Ds.
If my Sister wants to Play Pokemon Y, and i dont want to loose my Safe, i create with the SaveManager a Save with a Slot called my Username so i know this is my Save.
And if i want to play again Pokemon Y, i Export my Sisters Save and create a new Save called Her Username, and Import my Save then.

Its very very Simple.

edit: If i look in the JKSV Folder insiide the Save Folers, i find only .txt Files. Is this Normal ? XD.So SaveManager uses .txt files for Exporting and Importing Saves ? its cheap because the Saves dont weight so much if this is really right.

edit2: Ignore my first Question with the ExtDatas, i read above of my Post what it is haha.

I have a Problem: I am trying to Export the Save from the Game Fantasy Life but it shows me the Error: Error Opening Save Archiv.

I opened over 10 Times the game and loaded and saved ingame and goed back to SaveManager but it does not work still.
Do i need now to Export the ExtData ? Maybe the game Saves on my SD Card.

Hello! I'm new to the 3DS Tools scene. This tool looks amazing but I have a few questions.

1.) Just to clarify, this tool does not require anything extra to run? Just download, follow instructions and you can begin to use it?

2.) Does this dump the saves onto the SD card so that I can then use it I my PC? (I'd like to use the Animal Crossing map editor but I can't install Homebrew to dump my saves. And the Powersaves tool encrypts saves.)

3.) Is there any chance of this program bricking my 3DS?

4.) Does this tool allow users to put saves from one cartridge onto another cartridge, bypassing Nintendo's anti-cheat thing thE enabled with saves?

Thank you for your time! :)
