So I took the plunge and installed a9lh using the boring text guide everyone is raving about. The thing is that every 2-3 times I try to boot into the main menu software only the bottom screen backlight turns on and I'm greeted with blackness. Oh, the Wifi light doesn't turn on either. I have to do a hard reset and try again. Why is it not booting 100% of the time?

Thats... weird. Did you uninstall menuhax?

With a9l, you no longer need menuhax. Delete menuhax as it is what is causing the freezing. Do you have emunand or upgraded sysnand?

I don't have menuhax installed and I deleted the RedNAND like the guide says to do so I only have sysnand.

SD could be going bad.. just for funsies, does it boot at all without the SD?
And when it does boot, what conditions are different, if any?
Usually someone just cant get it to boot at all due to user error.
Ive never heard of it going in and out.

The SD card is brand new and I got it from a local retail store so I know it's legit. I already thought it might be a lemon so I verified by sector and it's fine. There are no special circumstances surrounding the booting. Once I finished installing everything I wanted I screwed the cover back on and haven't touched it since. It seems to be pretty random, but it's annoying to say the least.

Just cause its new from the store doesnt mean it cant go bad, especially when going through partitioning for emuNAND and such.
The only way A9LH wouldnt boot 100% - considering it happens before anything else - would be if the SD wasnt setup properly, haxloader.bin file being corrupt, SD going corrupt, etc.

Id recommend redownloading Luma, and if possible testing a 2nd SD to be 100% sure that isnt the issue.

Heh, the most common answer to people with problems on gbatemp; blame it on the sdcard!

- Plailect's guide has worked for everyone here.
- A9LH jumps into the SD card immediately.
- You're the one asking for help, we're suggesting possibilities.

EDIT: I don't know if "user error" includes corruption of the data. (?) When I meant I was absolutely sure it's "user error", I meant it's not guide nor dev's fault.

The guy says his SD Card is new from a retailer, it can't be that. He also said he followed the guide, so there's a good chance it's not user error.

Yeah, I read the guide 3 times and researched everything I didn't understand long before I even got the New 3DS. I've been modding since the GB MONO so I'm pretty confident in my abilities, but if I goofed up I would like to know.

I know, but I've read "it's the sdcard" so many times I actually made sure it wasn't a problem before I posted! I teh learnin.

Considering you're also having CIA installation freezes, I'm going to agree that it may be your SD card. Maybe take it out, make sure there isn't any finger oils on the contacts, and make sure it's seated properly.
