i got upto part 27 but rxmode says cannot find firmware.bin
Inside the rxtools zip, there is a folder called "tools" and inside, a readme.
You just need to do what it says (I think the readme is wrong though, because you need to run the cdn_firm.py)

thanks for the help. ive managed to upgrade. I have copied the homebrew starter onto the sd card but when I go on the site to launch the menu it does not load

Using OTPHelper to downgrade RedNAND to 2.1.0. It performed it file check and everything proceeded to go well. It then begun to install the CIAs to my RedNAND. Suddenly, towards the end it stopped and prompted, "An error has occurred." screen.

Is this a normal thing for it to show when downgrading the RedNAND to 2.1.0?
I'm on Part 4, Section 2, Step 11.

You need to zoom all the way and you'll see a bar in the left upper corner.
You need to click the rightmost border of that bar

That should work. Just don't update if a prompt arrives since a new update is out now.

ok i have managed to get to part 18, it booted to the home menu. how do i reboot into sysnand cause tinyformat does not appear in the homebrew

Sorry for the noob question, but after installing the cfw via the Gateway 3ds cart (blue) and then inserting the red cart with the roms, I cannot get past the initial 3DS screen when launching a game. Here is a bit of background of what I have done:

4.1 FW First 3ds (CTR001)

Watched this link from Gateway's site to install the CFW in order to enable your 3ds to run roms. I used a freshly formatted microSD for my roms with my Macbook so i hope the formatting is not the problem (it says it's fat32).
I ran the diagnostic test with the red card in the system, and everything checks out fine. I attempted to run both Lego Avengers and Pokemon Rumble with no luck.
I even did the Format emunand step. I'm hoping it's a common problem. I have held back posting on here in order to find a solution. Help a novice guy out please. :D

I also want to get another 3ds (XL) for my son. I noticed that there are two versions. What is the difference between them? Thanks!

Currently a noob who updated to 11.0 without thinking of the consequences.
No, maybe I did but just really wanted my birthright asap :)

Is my current only option to hardmod and downgrade that way in order to install CFW?
Or maybe at least run homebrew?
Should I wait to see if there is a possibility of an easier downgrade option? Or is that technically not possible anymore.
I have heard good news about the possibility of a fix for cubic ninja hax and maybe oot3dhax too.
Before I send my n3ds off to get hardmodded (a bit too afraid to do it myself) I would like to have a few of these questions answered.

Thanks a bunch ahead of time!

yes you will need a hardmod
cubic ninja and oothax being fixed wont change that as they are not kernel exploits

So I have a old 3ds XL on 9.2. I've been using it to run Gateway emunand.

I want to start a fresh and run a cfw and have a few questions.

1) what's the best route to go? A9LH and luma?

2) will this allow me to play the gba cia games?

3) when the 3ds boots up will it boot into emunand? Is this emunand running a cfw or is it just an untouched normal firmware?

4) what's the benefit of using emunand over sysnand for installing cias? Am I right in thinking that the sysnand will always need to be on 9.2 and cannot be upgraded otherwise I lose access to my entrypoint? If I want to upgrade I need to upgrade the emunand?

5) On the cfw can I then use a DS flashcard to play ds roms?

Thanks

1) yes use this guide https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki
2) yes
3) when you are done with the guide you will have cfw on sysnand. you can keep an emunand if you want, it will be a nand with cfw
4)there is none. with a9lh you can run an updated sysnand.
5) yes
