With all respects to all opinions but... Ill show you my point: i buyed a Gateway card in february after buying a 10.3 N3DS XL. As Downgrade Sysupdater Method wasnt 100% stable and semibricks were still a posibility (no matter what you say its still a lottery right now, recognized as a problem that still needs to be investigated in Plailec's PlaiSysUpdater Github), I keep trusting Gateway to launch the 10.3 support.

Yes, its annoying as hell to wait for these guys. And yes, it was always possible to buy Ocarina of Time in Amazon and prevent a semibrick updating to the last firmware and try again (but that feature came as MemChumHax was "rediscovered" in next FWs).

But the thing is nobody else was able to give 100% safe support for hacking my 3DS. I bet on them with real risk and that promise isnt still fullfiled.

But if they finally success as it seems, I think my point will give you at least, and maybe the only real reason, about Gateway utility right now for users... At least like me.

All points about CFW free stuff are completely right. In fact, i really hated to see years ago 3DS was going to be another massive place for Chinese Manufactured Flashcards and not a real place for free scene hacking.

But now its and you have a real choice. And a few Teams making money of Flashcards, with more or less ethics that I wont argue. Just enjoy the way you take to arrive to this point beyond money, as both are compatible. Guess NDS days were shit compared to this if you look behind with some perspective (as i dont remember seeing any CFW for any model. Im a right? I remember I didnt ever see anything about it, maybe im wrong).

Congratulations to the patient people of this forum who waited for free CFW. But please to not damn GW users who impatiently impulse bought the cart to play 3DS games like they did the previous generation with carts such as Supercard, M3DS Simply, CycloDS. Patience did not pay off in the NDS scene so those same people jumped on GW. It has made it's mark on the 3DS scene and continues to function with albeit lengthy delays between releases. If you have it or had it I'm sure you could appreciate it. If you did not own it, your opinion holds no water here.

What the fuck, 10+ pages?? IS EVERYONE HERE A GODDAMNED CHILD? Why must you dwell here and spout the same crap and dumb memes? Is this an imageboard? I'm pretty sure a good chunk of you people don't even own Gateways, so why are you even here in the first place? Honestly, what is the point of coming to a thread to spread ill-will and complain about something you don't own? You're not a consumer of the product, so there's no need for you to be here in the first place. On every single page I hear the same old, "a9lh" this "brickway" that "dank memes and edgy shitpost" everywhere. Just get out if it's such a problem to you.

Yeah, with Gateway you can cheat!.. but you can't use DS flashcards and GBA injects while in Gateway mode...

That has been the evolution of the GW cart. First it was .3ds rom loading, then emunand, then cheat support. The latter being it's best feature now that CFW has introduced cia installs on emunand. The card can be an excellent alternative to CFW if you do not play online (no risk of ban) as there would be no reason to install a cia. If you do game online. Install only the cia with online support to sysNAND/emuNAND and enjoy with CFW. For other games save the install time and play from GW (assuming you already own it, do not buy it otherwise). Just be sure to back up saves to protect them. All the CFW vs GW vs Sky3DS is kinda silly. CFW is the free and easy to use option (NTR cheat support, GBA/DSi and easier online setup) but GW can do these things with the exception of GBA/DSi. Not really trying to make an argument, just stating what has already been posted all over these forums a million times. The answer to the age old which came first the chicken or the egg is Gateway came first and CFW improved on GW but followed nonetheless.

Still discussing this? Gateway has separate storage of the "copy over and play" type and supports scene-standard .3ds files. No, you don't need it anymore. Yes, it's very easy to use. Some people are willing to pay for easy. Other people already have the thing and want to keep using it.

Next time your Mom or Aunt or wife buys an 8 oz. pack of shredded cheddar cheese, you can have a lengthy discussion with her arguing that with a $3 cheese grater and a cheap block of cheese, you can make your own which is just as good and don't need to spend the $$$ on the shredded cheese.

Wow, over 10 pages ago, I made a nice comment about 'mother's day' and basically dropping a clue when the update could possibly arrive plus or minus 48 hours or so, and instead it turns into a horrible mess of fighting and bitching.

I really hope you are alot older and wiser then what been shown in this thread recently, as I would be ashamed to be mother and have a kid you how you been acting recently.

Sorry, if I am little pissed, but I was born on Mother's Day and always treated her with respect, and when I suddenly woke up one morning to find out she was dead before I even had finished high school, I was quickly knocked into from being a child growing up to teenaged adult trying to cope with real life.

So these special days around this time of year is always special to me, it was real wake up call.

Anyhow, we now return you back to your normal thread of bitching, complaining, fighting, name-calling and other childishness actions.

Great analogy!

Guess NDS days were shit compared to this if you look behind with some perspective (as i dont remember seeing any CFW for any model. Im a right? I remember I didnt ever see anything about it, maybe im wrong).

Patience did not pay off in the NDS scene so those same people jumped on GW.

I agree with everything else you guys said, except for the parts I quoted.

The NDS was the last Nintendo handheld that required external hardware for homebrew/piracy purposes. It's not that there was a lack of patience or that the days were shit, it's was simply a matter of hardware limitations. We had CFW in the forms of FlashMe and FWNitro, but no internal memory card slot meant flashcards were the only way to have file systems that could be used with homebrew. This caused the scene to evolve a culture where homebrew devs and flashcart devs actually worked together for the betterment of the scene and the end users. DLDI patching is the result of that positive relationship.

While the DSi may have been the first Nintendo handheld with an SD card, hardware limitations also impacted scene development. It was incapable of running full DS games off the SD, so there was a split when it came to researching exploits. The homebrew devs were more interested in finding exploits that allowed for homebrew to load from the SD card, while the flashcart devs simply focused on maintaining compatibility with each FW update. However, the relationship between the two sides stayed mostly positive, as DSi firmware exploits being few and far between meant that homebrew was still made to be run on flashcarts.

It was until the 3DS that we actually had a Nintendo handheld that had retail games playable in either physical or digital format. This meant that the 3DS was capable of having CFW the likes of which had already seen on the PSP in the previous generation. The writing was on the wall that this scene was going to be vastly different than the NDS scene. The flashcart devs sought to find an exploit that would allow the use of a flashcart, while the homebrew devs went looking for a solution that required little to no additional hardware.

The homebrew devs were the first ones to find the exploits that can be used to run code, however they refused to publicly release anything except for information about the exploits themselves for reasons that remain privately kept to this day. This gave the flashcart devs the opportunity to use the findings to get a third of the way there by having a way in provided for them. With no public homebrew release in sight, the Gateway team became the first to release a homebrew/piracy solution and captured the Early Adopter segment of the user base in one fell swoop.

Now, Gateway did have controversial coding when it came to their launcher. I get the reason for the brick code as a clone deterrent, however the implementation was all wrong. If it had bricked the clone card and not the 3DS, I think the public perception of it would have been vastly different. The fault for bricks would have then lied squarely on the clone card makers and users for not listening to the warnings.

The point in the 3DS scene where we're at now is one where Gateway is no longer a necessity by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still a valid and useful option to those who already have it or fit its niche market user base. The optimal use of a Gateway these days is as a secondary storage device for 3DS games in a GW+CFW setup. When you don't have to put every 3DS game you play on the 3DS' SD card, you open up more space to enjoy homebrew. It's not for everyone anymore, but that doesn't mean that it has to belittled by those who don't want it.

There are workarounds to use GW on an A9LH system in the mean time. They're not as fast as booting A9LH CFW, but you don't have to completely abandon it either. Just use it as a storage space for games that you don't frequently play or want to test out before deciding to install as a cia. Once the A9LH support comes, you'll have the best of both worlds at A9LH boot speeds.

No its jsut gateway hasnt done a worthwhile update in the last year for 3DS games
Year? Big update in December (that included a .3dsx launcher, that someone has since used to make a .cia that will launch it from the home menu... useful for those that have a9lh and GW since the bastards never bothered to keep MSET relevant on a 9.x sysnand O3DS). Few updates this January both to use latest emunand and fix up the cheat engine...

It's nice that there's a workaround, but it's still not official A9LH. People paid money for this cart and to have to wait months for features that other's have gotten for free is just a slap in the wallet. It's even more insulting when their post mentions "up coming days," but it's been well over a months. How many days to people have to wait? They are running a business here and these kinds of waits are horrible for profits. Why would anyone want to pay 80$ for a product when I can get the same product for free without more cutting edge software? It's just not a sound business decision.

First, thanks for the update Mr. OPA. May the hype train continue till the bitter end! :P

Secondly, I don't think anyone here is crapping on Mom's Day or Mothers/Mums in general. They just disagree passionately about Gateway --it's usefulness and business practices. No big deal, just opinions.

Looking forward to the next update or release!

I completely agree that the waits have been quite ridiculous and that any lost sales that have occurred as a result of such is totally Gateway's fault. You'll get no argument from me there. These days I don't even suggest buying it to people who just want to mod their 3DS. I only pitch it to people who want to have as much storage space as possible for both 3DS games and homebrew.

What I can't get behind are the people who have already spent the money on Gateway that are abandoning a product that has worked just fine for them for years just because it hasn't added support for the most bleeding-edge entrypoint. I find it both laughable and ludicrous that people think that seconds shaved off boot time and 1-2 GB of SD card space are enough to invalidate an investment that is still paying off dividends to this day. If Gateway suddenly stopped providing updates that allowed GW Mode to work with an Updated EmuNAND(or SysNAND if using one of the current workarounds) and the newest games to be played, then it'd be justifiable for everyone to start getting rid of their GW Red Cards.

However, that is not the case by any stretch of the imagination right now. This is pretty much impatience getting the best of people. There's nothing stopping you from using GW alongside A9LH, except for an inane desire for fast boot speeds and a little extra SD card space. You can still have all of the benefits of A9LH; it just takes a little longer to boot into GW Mode. Last time I checked, being able to play games and homebrew was the whole point of modding a 3DS, not booting as fast as possible. Unless having a faster boot speed suddenly makes games easier to play, it's not as important as people are making it out to be.

For me, having switched to A9LH, I have gotten used to just switching on my 3DS and not needing to do anything else. I was only using my Gateway card for cheating at Badge Arcade, and my desire for badges is a lot less than my disinclination to set up a 9.2 emuNAND and go through a few steps to get into Gateway mode. If the Gateway team made a way to boot into Gateway mode from holding a button at launch I'll probably use it again, but not if it's any more complicated than that.
Also, for everyone who said it's faster to use .3ds files - it actually isn't (assuming you're downloading them and not dumping from your owned cartridges). Now with CIAngel, getting a new game is as easy as searching for the name and selecting it, and letting it download and install. Or, mass-installing tickets and browsing the eShop. No more adfly, survey, or virus-laden links (with a lot not even leading to the file you wanted), and no more browsing "that" ad-filled morass iso site.
