Hey all,

I have a Majoras Mask n3DS XL stored away, I've only ever taken it out of the box to look at it.

It's an IPS panel and looks gorgeous.

Here's the issue I'm having. I want to keep this thing prestine, I can purchase cases and screen protectors if need be. My original plan was to keep the thing boxed up as a collectors item but since the release of SNES VC games I'm starting to re-think whether or not to use this baby.

The current firmware is 9.2, so it's at the correct firmware already to install CFW.

What should I do?

Keep it boxed up
Use it and accept that it will have some wear n tear etc.

If I do use it, what CFW should I install?

Which is the best one to use?

Any pros and cons?

I've currently got an 3DS XL running GW latest emuNAND.

I know ultimately it is my decision but would appreciate others views on this :).

Thanks in advance

Joe

If it were me, I'd put it in a box for a while with the intent to sell it, but then never be able to stop thinking about hacking it, and after a week or two I'd A9LH it, madly sweating bullets all the way to 2.1 and back.

Then I'd put a zillion games on it and enjoy the crap out of them, never selling it, and never regretting that decision.

Well, is just sad buy something and never use it (and since it was made for be used, not use it can reduce the lifetime of the machine), so use it

There is no best CFW, they all great depending on what you want, for what you want I'd say that ReiNand is enough and minimal, but maybe you want something more robust and more noob-friendly so I'd say go with AuReiNand, or more customizable, go with CakeFW

The better way to use a CFW nowadays is using Arm9LoaderHax as entrypoint (you can even have a updated sysNAND with and remove the emuNAND)
But you can also use the old *hax entrance to CFW

Dont use the old *hax... Its just bad in comparisin of A9LH... Really bad. Just spend a few more hours and you will have the best and most stable hack

I agree with you, but always have some pretty scared guys that even A9LH process being secure now, they don't migrate to it
So I gave both options to him in case he is one of the ones scare of A9LH installation process

Thanks all, I will look at installing A9LH and a CFW.

I'll need to get hold of some decent cases first.

I saw a video guide from MrMario on YT. Is this still a good guide to follow?

The written guide online seems quite comprehensive as well.

I take it the stability of these exploits are much better than at release a while back?

Appreciate all the replies.

Thanks, is there any up to date video guides so I can follow the two of them as I go along?

I can follow the written guide if need be, just like the safety net of a video guide to help visualise the steps.

Unfortunately there are no up to date videos on YouTube. If you want real time help while doing it contact me on Skype (my signature)... Good luck! :)

The REAL question here is, why not use a CFW? As long as u dont do stupid things its totally safe and only brings you advantages. Also if u dont mind passing through a bit of setup u can install an A9LHax with a CFW protecting firm0\firm1(aureinand is probably advised for u as u dont have exp with cfw) and you will never need to worry again.

I have experience with installing custom firmware on other systems and also with the gateway exploit / downgrade on the 3DS.

I just wasn't sure which CFW was the best and wanted people's opinions on busting the collectors item out.

I already own a o3DS XL, so that is why I wasn't too bothered about using my n3DS until these SNES VC titles were released.

:).
