another question, how do I place bridges down in the map editor? when I place them down, they end up having a one block gap in game? do I place it in the middle of the river or on either edge of the river?

Assuming you Installed CFW on your 3ds, you can use JK save manager to backup your save file.
I did install cfw :3

You use the block 1 in from the edge of the river if I remember correctly.

theres always the reccomendation that you always save or the game will delete its own save files because... well animal crossing... is there a way to use your backup save in the event that all of your data is deleted from lack of saving?

Game saves don't randomly delete. Ever. Unless you broke your sd card, the data's not going anywhere. I've had the same save on Animal Crossing for almost 4 years now.
