Oh there's a way to convert the saves alright, but it takes a LOT of work, and knowledge of how things work. It was a hassle when I made the switch from Gateway roms, to just cia's. It involves using SavDataFiler to decrypt the saves, then using JK Save Manager to import them. You also must make a save in the cia game before you can import. You REALLY gotta know what you're doing when you do this process.

To decrypt a save with SavDataFiler, you have to rename the game's save to 000400000FF40A00 then load up the game on the menu, and launch SDF. Now you can press Y to import this game's save. Now repeat this for every game.

To import using JK Save Manager, you have to mimic how JK Save Manager normally uses saves. Match the folder structure.

Good luck, it's a LOT of work.

geez.. I remember when I switched my saves from o3ds gateway to n3ds cfw, that was a real pain in the ass. Use ftpbrony, that will save some time here and there, especially when renaming the gateway saves

I was slick when I did mine, and it didn't require using FTbrony to rename files over and over. I made a folder full of saves, like this:
SD:/Gateway Saves/Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate/000400000FF40A00.sav

I did this for every save I had. Then I used CTRXplorer to cut and paste the save file to the root. Then went on to use SavDataFiler to backup the save. It was a cycle of operations for me.
1. move save file with CTRXplorer 2. load up the game from multi rom menu 3. use SavDataFiler and backup the save 4. Repeat for every save even if it kills you.

Took me 40 mins or more to complete this task alone. Then another 30 or so to fix them up into JK Save Manager format.

SavDataFiler saves are like: 201695139382/000016/Sav.dat
Where you'd rename 0000016 folder, to Super_Mario_3D_Land for example and put it in: SD:/JKSV/Saves/ then import with JK Save Manager.

One of the good things about Gateway is how easy it is to move games and save files between consoles. Just plug the Gateway cart in, copy over all the .sav files from the other console's SD card, and it just works.
CFW does not have a lot of benefits over Gateway, the two that come to mind are not needing the GW cart to boot and play .cia games etc, as well as a9lh support in CFW. Gateway is adding the latter soon ("in the coming days" is what they said well over a week ago, and when they make that sort of claim it usually means an imminent release, right after beta testing is done of course.) If you are happy with your Gateway and you like the simplicity of just copying a .3DS ROM over and playing it right away, there is no need to switch. I still use my Gateway. It doesn't make much sense for people to buy a Gateway nowadays, since CFW does the job pretty well and for free, but for people who already own a Gateway, it's still a useful device.

Edit: If you really want to switch though, this thread will be of help: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/
Card2 games (Pokemon, Animal Crossing and a bunch of others) do not need the workaround mentioned in that thread, you can export them directly without renaming the .sav to 000400000FF40A00.sav)

You're not using Gateway? In that case I'm not sure why you replied to a post that's specifically about Gateway.
CIA saves can be exported with JKSM or SaveDataFiler but you need to be on the NAND the games are installed to otherwise the saves won't be recognized. Gateway saves can be exported with the workaround I linked before if you have the .sav files.
well that doesn't work on any game other than pokemon
It works with the workaround in the thread I mentioned, and also with an unreleased tool that @ihaveamac wrote to automate the renaming.
